great soundtracks

Recommended Posts

I just watched (500) Days of Summer. A very good movie made great by the soundtrack.

Here's the Amazon link.

Here's a few highlights from youtube:

My favorites:

- Into The Wild

- Forrest Gump

- Dazed and Confused

- O Brother Where Art Thou?

- Almost Famous

Forrest Gump wasn't anything new to most people, but when the movie came out I was 10 and my dad bought the soundtrack because that was the music of his generation. I listened to it and it turned me on to classic rock and just good music as a whole. Same goes for Dazed and Confused.

The Into The Wild soundtrack is phenomenal. Eddie Vedder did a great job on that. Same with O Brother...just great traditional old timey music.

The Wall had a pretty decent soundtrack if I remember right.

High Fidelity of course. I wish they had released a soundtrack to Bob Roberts.

If folks have not see Bob Roberts

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZXFdikh-70?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZXFdikh-70?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

He refused to release a soundtrack fearing the songs could be misunderstood taken out of the context of the movie.

Is this great soundtracks because the music collection is great, or great soundtracks as they do an excellent job of integrating with the movie? For instance, Garden State would be great example of the latter. Not all the songs are classics, but they fit the movie so well. Just about any "slice of life in this time period" soundtrack would be the former (Forrest Gump, Dazed and Confused).

Into the Wild was fantastic.

Two from last year that I enjoyed were The Social Network and (surprisingly enough, to me at least) the new Tron movie.

The Pearl Jame/Cypress Hill song was tight, too. Real Thing?

I voted the songs. If it was how they integrated into the movie I'da said Shawshank Redemption.
