vs. MARINERS 5 / 12

Wow, you still don't see it, do you? The stats you quoted were "total run expectancy". To determine the right play when you need one run, the analysis would need to be binary - ie, did or didn't score. That analysis has been done many, many times. 2nd base one out beats 1st base no outs so it makes sense if you only want/need one run. In other words, that exact situation.

No it doesn't. Even if you need one run you are better off with runner on first no outs.

I don't get it. If the ump wants to go home, why doesn't he narrow the strike zone, rather than widening it? A wide strike zone means your hitters will either be striking out on balls, or swinging at pitches that they think will be expanded strikes, but aren't very hittable pitches. In other words, more outs, no runs, and a long, long, long game.

I think the ump wants to stay behind home plate until the 21st inning, not get the game over with.

You guys catch that? Buck was thinking about what he would do if Scott got to first there, I bet. That was funny with the little head cock each way.

Scott swung at an awfully bad 3-1 pitch there.

You'd put Izturis on there and bunt him over with Roberts. At least that's what I'd do.

I do not see how, scoring position 1 out means the next 2 batters get a hit you win.

Seriously? I admit that I haven't read any studies in several years on this subject, but it used to be 4% or so tilted to 2nd/one out vs 1st/zero out. Has it seriously changed? Can you quickly point me to new info on this that is germane? I don't want to see total run expectancy. That is obviously higher.

Relax, he's mad because I pointed out his bizarre man-rush on the Mariners starter and now he's been arguing any point I make since.
