Roch: According to industry sources, Dipoto is looking like the top choice for the Angels

Recommended Posts

Personally, Lacava is the guy I want. I just think he knows the division better and it'd be nice to take one away from a rival. Beyond that, I think he really does have a good scouting acumen and can build a farm system the way it should to compete in the AL East - stockpile as much talent as possible.

I definitely feel that this job is Dipoto's to lose though, especially from his time working with Buck. I'd rather have Lacava, but I'm certainly going to be happy with Dipoto if it comes to that.

If this is how it plays out, this is one of the very few "good problems" the O's have been faced with as of late; picking between LaCava and DiPoto.

One of the things I like best about LaCava:

"I have been in five organizations and I benefited from that as you realize there are different ways to do things. It's not one size fits all, you have to look at where your club is in the winning cycle, you have to look at where your prospects are and when you expect them to arrive, and what your major league payroll is. Do you have the resources to plug holes with free agents, and so on? Each club I worked with has a different way of doing things, it's not one size fits all. You have to look at where you are in your circumstances and come up with a plan that best suits your organization."

So he wouldn't be married to a Tampa model or a rebuild were he to come here IMO.

Agreed. I really do think that this is how its working out too - I think Buck wants a younger guy that's smarter at all the GM business but will still "report" to Buck, as it were.

How do you get that from him saying what you bolded?

There is no correlation there whatsoever.

Just sees what he wants to see.

Nowhere man can you see me at all?

I'm not sure what this means but it has been reported by multiple sources that Arte Moreno and team president John Carpino were seen having dinner with Andrew Friedman:

Probably doesn't mean much more than Tex having dinner at xyz place and taking in a Ravens game. We know how that turned out.

Rosenthal has confirmed the meeting.

Rosenthal's tweet:

Source: #Rays GM Friedman is #Angels' top choice. Met with #Angels execs Moreno and Carpino, as first reported by DRaysbay. #MLB

Yes, but didn't Friedman already say that he wasn't interested in leaving the Rays this year? Strange...

LAA seems like a very attractive job.

Why wouldn't it be? Yeah, their PD system has been depleted and they have some bad contracts....but they have an owner who will spend and an easier division than the AL East. And a lot more stability than Tampa as well.
