Orioles Reach Out To Prince Fielder's Representatives

Recommended Posts

As they should.

The Nationals aren't going to get Fielder. That would mean they'd have 325 mmillion locked up between RF and 1B. They also have LaRoche and Morse, and they have more pressing needs like a starter and a CF'er. Also, with the hamstring injury to Marrero, they are now looking at Mark DeRosa for a back up 1B. LaRoche will play first and Morse will play LF.

The Rangers and Nolan Ryan have verbally stated that they won't be going after Fielder.

The Mariners could go after him, much like us.

The Blue Jays have stated that they won't guarantee more than 5 years to a player

The Cardinals will keep Pujols unless the Marlins land him.

The Cubs are in a re-building mode, and most likey won't try and land Fielder per MLBtraderumors.com (they are more interested in Albert and will give him more years because they really like his defense despite his age difference from Prince)

That leaves the Orioles and the M's. It kind of reminds me of last year with Vladdy. Prince doesn't really have anywhere to go, but the man will get paid. If I were him, I'd accept arbitration and try next year.

As an Orioles fan, this is a perfect time to get a marquee player at a position of need, ONLY if we intend to build around him and make this team a contender. Getting Prince and failing to upgrade the rotation, or the rest of the areas that need to be upgraded.

Lets get this done!

FOX Sports reports that the Washington Nationals are going after free agent first baseman Prince Fielder.

The talks hit a "roadblock" Monday, FOX reports, and the Nats may turn their attention to trying to get Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes instead.

Meanwhile, FOX has it that the Chicago Cubs are after both Fielder and fellow first baseman Albert Pujols simultaneously.

As FOX hears it, the St. Louis Cardinals and Marlins are the only other teams after Pujols right now while Fielder only has his former employer, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Nats as serious contenders at this point, though the Seattle Mariners "are believed to have interest" and the Texas Rangers "eventually could enter the mix" for Pujols or Fielder.

So:

Nats

Cubs

Brewers

Mariners (?)

Rangers (?)

So:

Nats they have better needs and Prince will be too much

Cubs- have stated that they like Pujols better and will focus their attention there

Brewers- wont be able to afford him

Mariners (?)- much of a possibility

Rangers (?)- the rangers and Nolan Ryan have said they aren't interested

So the Brewers, who have openly shown interest in Fielder and Reyes, can't afford Fielder... but the Orioles can? The same Orioles that Duquette suggested would have a flat payroll? The same Orioles that haven't exceeded a $100 million payroll ever?
