McPhail left this morning

Recommended Posts

A lot of truth in this...However, because we were a poor drafting team, we should have done more in the trade market to bring in the right young talent and, on top of that, we should have done a better job of getting more picks.

had we done a better job making the right trades and cheap pick ups, maybe we aren't losing picks and making bad decisions like signing baez.

It is a big cycle.

We are fixing the problems that have been addressed here.

We are drafting a lot better, with the exception of giving up the 2nd and 3rd rounders last year, we still got 1st/2nd round talent in Arreita and Bascom.

Yes, we have struggled through trades, acquiring no one of significance, but the key thing is NOW we are dangling everyone and seeing what we can get in return. There will be nice young talent coming in return for what we trade away.

The free agents we let walk werent good enough to actually warrant getting picks for them and that just proves that we were picking up veterans that werent good.

We relied on adding crappy free agents so we f'ed up the team with mediocrity, that we couldnt even trade for talent or get draft picks for.

It WAS a big cycle, but it is coming to an end.

Bradford, Walker, Tejada, Roberts, Bedard, and Mora would most likely still be Type A or B free agents when they walk, granted they probably wont be here at that point. We would get picks for our good talent.

Recently, we have strayed away from the vets. Adding Fernando Cabrera and Quiroz, while not sparkling, is taking risks on players with still high upside.

No longer are pieces of the farm system being traded away for players that arent going to help us. All in all, MacPhail realizes all of this and is trying to help the Orioles return to a prominent state.

Everyone needs to just relax and see what direction we go. Yes it has been 10 years of losing and that cycle may last another 1 or 2 years, but the cycle of WHY we are a losing team is coming to an end!

I give McPhail two more weeks before I will critize him. He is clearly lining up 3 trades including his 3 best players..It will look much diffrent very soon around here.

However i will be very critcal if we go into the new year without any major trades

The Mitchell report wont come out until next week supposedly.

This is why Tejada and Roberts need to be traded before it comes out. I'm hoping both are gone by Monday...

One question not just for you but all that are being critical of AM none moves so far. If you knew exactly what was being offered(not rumors) and they were not enough value and we go into opening day with all 3, would you still be critical? This is why I am disappointed but not critical of AM, we DO NOT KNOW what is being offered. We know the rumors, but rumors are just that. Rumors get us feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, but at the end of the day they are just rumors. As much as I love the inside info, our insides are vague at best and it seems they only give bits and pieces. I understand why they are sometimes vague and can't state full details, but a little more clarity would go a long way to calming the natives.

Nobody can argue that the team has done a good job on the trade front over the last 10 years. But it is very important to be dealing from strength. Look at Detroit. They acquired Cabrera and Willis because they had the bargaining chips to do it. Look at how we view the teams making offers for Bedard. The Mets desperately want him, but can't get him because their farm system just ain't that great. Meanwhile, the Dodgers could probably come up with 4 or 5 different combinations that would work for us and still leave them with a boatload of talent in the minors. But they aren't sure they want to, because their talent is so good that they might be better off just keeping it.

In the last 10 years, how many really good prospects have the Orioles traded away? Virtually none, and yet our top-tier talent in the minors is middle of the pack at best and the homegrown talent on the ML roster is minimal.

But we could/should have traded some of our(vet) guys away and then been smarter with guys like Maine as well.

I'm not denying it.

We could have/should have but it is too late to worry about that. Now we can focus on the here and now and on how to fix this team. That is by not giving up on it 6 days into December!

Thank you Tony Robbins.

You will notice that i have said IF WE COME BACK WITH THE SAME TEAM. Yes, AM is saying the right things but if the results are the same as the past regimes, that is all that matters.

The thing is, even if we come back with the same team, it doesnt necessarily mean it will be the same team at the trading deadline. That might be another factor we have to deal with.

As I said, there isn't a reported offer out there that I think we should take for the Big 3 but there are other guys available that we should get.

I did answer....I wouldn;t care if he didn't trade them but I would still be pissed that the res tof the team went unchanged.

Ok that's fine but I was not talking about them so lets say they all get traded except the big 3, would be correct in assuming you would be ok with it if the offers just were not there?
