Where There's Smoak?...

Recommended Posts

I want Smoak. Get him out of Seattle's park and hopefully Buck and Presley can tap into the talent that made him a top 10 pick. I'm sure Seattle will want more than a LOOGY in return for him. I think a Britton for Smoak deal is a pretty even trade.

I think you're right about the trade aspect, I just wouldn't do it. Brittons potential far outweighs Smoaks IMO.

No way am I trading a guy with #2 ceiling for Smoak. Ground ball pitcher is a poor choice for Safeco anyway.

Trading Matusz for Smoak would be a mistake. Britton too IMO, but maybe less so.

I feel the exact opposite. Matusz has little to no chance of being a serviceable starter while Britton certainly does have that chance. I'd trade Matusz for Smoak in a heartbeat but not Britton.

I wouldn't trade Matusz or Britton for Smoak. He's had 1421 big league PAs so far, and a .683 OPS (.223/.306/.377). Decent HR power, especially playing in Seattle, but nothing else. He's like Mark Reynolds without the walks.

He's still young-ish (will be 26 next season) and a top prospect pedigree, but betting Matusz or Britton on him being the next Jose Bautista seems like a loser.

Patton? Maybe, but still probably not. I think Smoak has essentially 0 trade value - especially since the M's have no room for him on next year's team. What other team is going to offer a Matusz or a Patton to the Mariners for Smoak?

Matusz will be 26 years old this year and has a 5.36 career ERA in 368 innings.

I think it is a good trade. I think Matusz will get better there and I think Smoak will get better here.

The M's value Smoak the way we value the cavalry so why would they trade him for less than Jake, Matusz or Britton. That being said I would offer Patton and a b prospect first and if they didn't bite I would offer Arrieta for Smoak and one of their b prospects. I want Matusz and Britton to stay on the O's this season. I think Arrieta and Smoak would both benefit from a change of scenery. Win win.

I agree 100% with this post. We should be able to get him for a B level prospect. I would not give up Matusz or Britton for Smoak.

Agreed. Britton or Matusz would be an overpay.I would like very much to have Smoak, just not at that price.

I'd like Smoak as a reclamation project stashed in Norfolk in hopes he figure out how to hit and if Davis struggles we can bring him up. I don't want to give up Matusz or Britton for that. I'd consider Patton or Arrieta.

Trading either for Smoak would make me physically ill. I wont both of them, I dont want Smoak and I dont want Saunders. This thread is not what I needed to read just before bed!

No matter, whoever puts on the Cartoon Bird Hat, I'll watch and root my ass off for 162 (hopefully more) games a year. Its fun to be right about guys, but its much more fun to watch the O's win.

Cheers.

This has got to be the only corner of the baseball universe in which the "impact" of a potential [Matusz/Arrieta/Britton] for Smoak deal would be felt. Talk about an inconsequential cast of characters...

For my part, Matusz is the only guy I'd hesitate to trade. And even then, Matusz for Smoak, in a vacuum, wouldn't exactly be lopsided.

There would have to be a pretty decent prospect coming back, because Smoak is no longer a prospect; he's a disappointment.

Send them Arrieta then, because Britton alone won't get the job done.
