Ravens have agreed to a new contract with QB Joe Flacco.

What happened to Aikman his first two years? What kind of leader goes 0-11 with 18 picks and 9 touchdowns. Where was his competitive fire then? Did he find it in year two going 7-8 with another 18 picks and 11 touchdowns? Some Corvette. Maybe that is just b.s. rhetoric. Flacco has reached near Aikman's highs but has never been anywhere near his lows.

Aikman was the #1 pick and went to an awful team. Flacco got the keys to the Mercedes handed to him.

There is a big difference between taking a bad situation and turning it into something great, versus just getting in and driving the car.

Not really.

Look at Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson and RGIII. All came out and made the playoffs this year.

The 2008 Ravens were supposed to win 5 games max. Yeah they still had some talent on the roster but had lost 11 games the year before and had a rookie QB.

Not trying to take anything away from Aikman, but Flacco didn't exactly come into a rosy situation either. Same with Matt Ryan.

Using your argument, JaMarcus Russel isn't a bad QB because he came into a bad situation.

Hey Magicbird Small Ben and Steelers will be losers the next few seasons. Have fun watching a 500 team and missing the playoffs.

My first thought was this guy was the Steelers troll from a few months back who said Flacco would never win a SB and then got himself banned. Forgot his name.

Anyway, regardless, a lot of people here need to stop feeding the troll. He's succeeding in what he came in the thread to do.

2013 is still young, but this thread is aiming for a top 10 worst threads year-end awards. Every single page is like simultaneously getting kicked in the crotch, eye-gouged, and having two vagrants fornicate on your grandmother's grave. Just soul-crushing stuff. Really.

This should make the naysayers happy

A league source with knowledge of the situation told PFT the Packers will extend Aaron Rodgers' contract "soon," and that it will "set a new benchmark that will stand for several years."

"It is his time," the source said. The NFL's best quarterback is signed through 2014, but the six-year, $65 million deal he inked in October 2008 is severely outdated. The former league and Super Bowl MVP is going to blow away Joe Flacco's $52 million guaranteed when he re-ups. CBS Sports reported Tuesday Rodgers has no plans to hold out this summer if he doesn't get a new deal.

Which is pretty much what everyone paying attention has been saying. Rodgers and his agent were keeping a tight watch on the proceedings of Flacco's contract.

Funnily enough, NFLN reran the Top Ten QB's of the 90s yesterday. Aikman came in at number 3, and in a rare display of agreement, most of talking heads agreed that there was nothing particularly special about Aikman. One or two even asked "is (Aikman) even in the top 5 if he doesn't have the three rings?" Then it was summed up by another one saying "all that matters is winning."

And if someone actually believes Flacco was handed the keys to a Mercedes, they're talking out of the wrong body cavity. New coach in first season. Flacco was third on the depth chart, and they clearly were going to give him a year, expecting the team to be in transition. Then the double whammy of Boller getting injured and Smith getting ill and they were forced to use Flacco. And all of a sudden, a team that looked like a rebuild to a degree marched right in to the playoffs, and the guy they wanted holding the clipboard made his NFL mark by playing the most games as a rookie, and being the first rookie to win two playoff games (which sort of goes hand in hand with playing the most games). He wasn't handed the keys to a Mercedes. He was given the keys to an old muscle car, and with some help, restored it.

But meh, whatever. It's hard to reverse your stance on Flacco when you've been force-fed sports media belittling him for the past 5 years.

I just don't know who was comparing the two and where it started. Like I said Aikman is a super-sized Brad Johnson more the best kind of game manager and Flacco is in the big arm category. Really the two aren't comparable in terms of style, and team set up. Aikman is littered with games of 70+ completion percentages. Flacco is not that kind of qb.
