Johnson may be traded per Rosenthal (Update: Johnson trade to A's for Weeks)

Recommended Posts

Interesting move. I would be interested in seeing the prospect, but don't expect much.

The fact that it's a PTBNL is encouraging. That suggests that it is someone that might legitimately be taken in the Rule 5 draft.

Um, no ****ing way. 97 was, I believe, PG's top recorded velocity for their events by a player from that draft class. Pretty sure it was Jose Fernandez at Jupiter. Don't remember that one? It's cool, I had a camera:

ahhh. I'm sorry. I misread. I was going to say. But in reality I was just joking around.

Hard to believe our GM talks about allocation of resources after moving JJ to the small market Athletics of all teams. Really?

Weeks seems like a decent upside guy with good career MiL numbers, but he has really struggled to make a ML impact the past two seasons. I do like that he is nearing the 26-28 year old range for peak productivity. So, we'll see.

We may have been better off hoping for JJ to repeat his 1.7 WAR 2013 season and overpaying by a few $M than to get Weeks. Also, it would not surprise me to see JJ pitch well for the As for half a season and then yielding a better return via trade than Weeks.

A good season by Weeks could keep Schoop at 3B.

Interesting move. I would be interested in seeing the prospect, but don't expect much.

I agree with this, I would rather have kept JJ. I say that not watching any games...then I would probably be yelling to release him:)

Weeks has little to no value. Peter Angelos must be quite serious about his cap.

I found these two guys searching through A's websites that are eligible to be taken. Anthony Aliotti and Miles Head.

I see Weeks in a utility role, at best, and maybe in the minors unless he puts on a show in ST. Flaherty is both a better hitter and fielder.

Also found 3 more. So that brings it to 5 guys the A's left exposed. Possible ptbnl's

1B Anthony Aliotti AAA

3B Miles Head AA

SP Blake Hassebrock AA

RP Jeff Urlaub AA

RP Seth Frankoff A+

It just seems some take pleasure in bashing a player.

I've seen very few posts actually bashing Johnson. As I said earlier, he has value but not to this team as currently constructed.

Billy's going to swallow $6M, play Johnson through July, then turn him into something more than Jemile Weeks at the trade deadline next year. DD knew that if he tried to do the same thing mid-year next year that he'd have Buck all over his butt for trading away his closer in a pennant hunt.

That wouldn't be the best use of funds. $6M is a lot to spend on whatever prospect you could get for a half season of Jim Johnson.

I guess we should expect the PTBNL from their current 40-man roster

What construction would value him? Or is any closer worth 9-10 million?
