Project David Lough's OPS for 2014

  1. 1. Project David Lough's OPS for 2014

Recommended Posts

David Lough is probably the only remaining player who is almost certain to break camp with the Orioles. Last year, he posted a .724 OPS. He was called up in mid-May, posted an .807 OPS through the end of June, then .672 the rest of the way. In the minors, he carried an .808 career OPS, including .796 in 3+ seasons in AAA.

Dan and Buck are very high on Lough. But what do you say?

I may do some projection threads for other players a bit later in the spring once it is a little clearer who is likely to be on the team. Weeks and Clevenger seem like good bets, but no sure things, and the OF competition is pretty wide open.

I went with .750-.774. Although he had fairly even splits last year, it does look like Buck plans on platooning him this year, and I'm thinking facing mostly RHP will probably help his OPS.

Disappointed to hear that our manager plans to play Cruz in left field against left handed pitching. I would prefer Lough play everyday in left with an occasional rest. I love his defense and I like the added balance he provides to the line up. I think he would benefit from more at bats. That said I have at .725-.750.

Over how many games?

I can see him scoring 75 runs having a .335-340 OBP and 15-20 SBs.

Hard to predict stats for a prospect not having a whole season at the mlb level, with a new team

He played 90 some games last year with KC.. He passed Rookie status last year when he finished 8th in ROY voting.

89 games, and he started 80, which is a bit more than half of a regular season, not a complete season.

Definitely tricky, but I like what I see so far. I kind of see him being an affluent man's David Newhan for us.

I really do too

I wasn't trying to be negative on the kid, just don't know how one would go about projecting stats for him, based on what?

While I like Nate, I am hoping Lough or Lough/Platoon Partner will be an upgrade.

Umm.. 96 games under his belt last year. 89 of them played the field at least 1 inning. Of those 89, 80 were full games. Which means he pinched hit 7 games.

He officially has 169 days on the MLB roster (service time). He missed out on "full season" by 3 days.

Solid MiL numbers, still young. High .700's and I'm thrilled. More excited about his defense and speed.

    • It’s a supply and demand thing.  Whether someone offers X amount of dollars is irrelevant.  The Os And their structure, could use his bat and his production.   Most teams don’t have that combo of at bats and money they can spend on a player with his skill set.     The Os do...and the idea that other teams chose not to do it is irrelevant to his value to this organization.  The idea that they may be looking into Puig (conjecture) and brought on a LH DH type at REINFORCES the idea that this is salary driven, not producing driven imo.     My only argument with this decision is that this isn’t solely or even largely driven by roster management despite what Elias says.  He is lying for management.
    • Your tone of authority when you are clearly in a fog is admirable.  Anyone who thought his arbitration number was a bargain, as you suggest, could have offered a warm body to secure his services before he hit the open market.  What won't make sense is if any team offers him 2M or more now that he's available to any team that wants him.
    • There are three vaccines, possibly four or five, if you trust the Chinese and Russians. Every factory on the world is going to be producing them. We may delay the start of spring training(only three months away) but I don’t think the season will start late. We may have distanced crowds, though.
    • No, it absolutely is the formula and what’s he’s worth.  That’s a fact. However, there are only a few teams that need a DH, so it’s not surprising that the market isn’t there..plus, you have announced that you are cutting him, so why trade for him with so little completion?
    • Nevin may get reps at 3B, LF, and DH.  Shaw fits in well as a 1B, LF, DH option too
