vs. TWINS, 5/02

Recommended Posts

o

After 3 awful starts to start the season, Ubaldo Jimenez has showed signs of settling in in his last 2 starts.

In each outing of those last 2 outings, he threw 5 consecutive shutout innings before faltering (in the most recent start, he threw 5 shutout innings from the 2nd through the 6th after having given up 2 runs in the 1st, before faltering in the 7th.)

HOWEVER ...... Jimenez also walked 7 batters in only 11.33 innings pitched in those 2 games, for an average of 1 walk every 1.62 innings.

JIMENEZ' 2014 GAME LOG:

Ricky Nolasco is doing better than Jimenez in terms of control (he has walked 9 batters in 29.67 innings pitched so far this season, for a respectable 1 walk every 3.3 innings.)

HOWEVER ...... Nolasco also has an atrocious 6.67 E.R.A. and 1.753 W.H.I.P.

Of the 43 hits that he has given up this season, 18 have been for extra bases (5 home runs, and 13 doubles.)

In his 5 starts this season, NOLASCO DID HAVE 1 excellent outing. Against the Royals on April 12th, he gave up only 1 run over 8 innings. But although he only walked 1 batter in that game, his strikes-to-balls ratio was not good (58 Strikes, 48 Balls.)

Bold predictions:

1. Manny Machado records at least 1 out on a play in which he leaves his feet

2. Zach Britton pitches and records 2+ K's

3. At least 1 HR comes from in the 7-9 spots in the order

Doesn't matter. We've made guys with very high ERA's look like

Cy Young this year and in years past.

Not tonight Roy. Not tonight.

.

The Devil Rays just tied it upon an RBI-single.

2-2, still batting in the top of the 4th.
