Chen Optioned to GCL Orioles; September Call-ups are Coming!

Recommended Posts

So then, I presume that he's not REALLY getting on a plane and heading down to Florida, even though he'll technically be a member of that team for a few days.

Yes he is. He will be throwing a bullpen in Sarasota.

OK.

Thanks.

Couldn't he do that in Baltimore, though?

Locks and near locks

Clevenger - Could make the playoff roster if he hits in Sept. On the 40 man

Webb - On the 40 man

Meek (hasn't given up a run in his last 10 appearances) On the 40 man

Saunders - Call up that may make the playoff roster. Should be up before Sept 1st. Will probably take one of the two open 40 man roster spots.

Next tier

Weeks - On the 40 man. Pinch runner. Not a good defender.

Q Berry - Pinch runner and defensive outfielder. Not on 40 man. Would force the O's to put Manny on the 60 day DL.

Maybe

Casilla - Fine defensive infielder. Not on 40 man. O's would probably DFA Paredes to make room.

Or

Phelps - Good 2B/3B defender. Not on 40 man. Has not cleared waivers yet but may soon.

Still in the game

Steve Johnson = Last two outings were decent. Will pitch at least once more. On the bubble. On the 40 man.

I don't see why they get the call

De Jesus, Paredes and Lombardozzi have not hit in August and aren't as good defensive as Casilla or Phelps.

Who may the O's acquire?

I think the O's are still looking for a lefthanded bat between now and Sept 1st.

WC, as I was reminded, the DFA of Phelps leaves an open spot on the 40 man. Also, Manny is done for the year, so I don't know why it would "force" them to put him on 60 Day DL.

Well, Manny is not of the 60 man DL now. But if the O's add two players to the 40 man the second will force the O's to put Manny on the 60 man DL. That is not a bad thing. But it is a move the O's would need to make.

W-Y Chen, if you think you know Sarasota FL, it's time to see it in color!

Does this effect his ability to put on the Playoff roster at all? I am a little hazy on those rules.

Really? How is he going to make the playoff roster if both Joseph and Hundley are healthy?

It depends on how many pitchers the O's carry for the playoffs. If they only need 4 starters then they may carry an extra bat.

Don't think of Clevenger as just a catcher. He is a lefthanded bat. Probably the O's best lefthanded bat from the minors. If the O's can't acquire a lefthanded bat from outside the organization, Clevenger may be that lefthanded bat.

:agree: This is my guess
