Toronto looking for New President to be Duquette.

Ahhhhhhh.......

Whenever Buck speaks, all is right with the world. I feel much better now.

I am in complete agreement... when I listen to Buck I feel like, "meh, let DD go, Buck says everything will be fine".

The below quote is priceless. How he can say things like this with a straight face... "some stuff we want to do in Sarasota", y'know - bars, great "Early Bird" specials (for Peter) and other stuff...

"I saw Peter," he said. "We talked about some locker room renovations and some stuff we want to do in Sarasota."

I believe that Major League Baseball should:

1) Require the Blue Jays to make their intentions clear

2) Ban Ed Rogers from acting as a representative of the Blue Jays in personnel matters for a period of several years

3) Fine the Blue Jays for fomenting a "toxic" environment in the Orioles front office

4) Force the Blue Jays to compensate the Orioles in some way for the damage they have done

5) Start a 48-hour clock during which the Orioles and Blue Jays can agree to compensation for the Blue Jays hiring Duquette. If no agreement can be reached, the Blue Jays would be banned from entering into employment discussions with Dan Duquette until his contract with the Orioles ends.

Major League Baseball can do all of this, and they should.

No one that matters is confused as to what is going on. And the people that matter have the facts and can make appropriate determinations. I get that there is a fear that MLB is looking to stick it to Baltimore, but I firmly believe much of that is the product of simply not having info and assuming intent/actions. MLB isn't going to, and shouldn't, demand any public statements or demand any particular outcome. They certainly shouldn't start instituting fines because the fan base of a team, based on slivers of information, feels like their team is being wronged. They are going to try and sort out the issue while keeping two owners reasonably happy so everyone can get back to making money.

I think the chances of the commissioner's office siding with the Orioles is close to zero.

Not sure if there is anything to be gained by even trying.

I would say anyone who believes there is a team in baseball who hasn't "tampered" is crazy -- and I certainly don't believe there is anything to gain by Baltimore going down that route.

Apparently the Tampa Bay Rays disagree with you.

I would be shocked if they received anything of consequence.

They still felt it was worth their while to file the tampering charges.

Maybe with all these teams upset with the tampering going on and nothing being done about it we could get the new commissioner fired. He doesn't seem to be doing his job at all.

Like you, I am not making any assumptions about what has gone on here. However, I do think Toronto's apparent use of the media to interfere with the normal process, if shown to be intentional, is pretty outrageous.

Here we go again...

Just be careful to consider the source.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Orioles talks with Colby Rasmus are gaining steam according to source</p>— Jim Bowden (@JimBowden_ESPN) <a href="

Will Jim Bowden finally have a scoop that came through? The drama. The intrigue.

No offense intended to Os84

Would love to paste Angelos's strong rhetoric to go along with the weak compensation we wind up getting.

At this point, I'm ready to cut bait. I don't want an executive that wants a job with one of our chief competitors.

    • Just talking about the general trend that analytic teams realize that arms are more risky, so they're ranking gets slightly dinged to compensate for that. He also didn't pick a pitcher until the 8th round last year. Things like on base skills are harder to mold using modern training, places like driveline are much more effective for pitchers.
    • I guess so.  If they want to have Mize paired with Lacy/Hancock, it's hard to argue with.  Tork does seem to be the consensus #1 pick though.  I am curious when the last time there was a player previously thought to be the consensus #1 pick who didn't go first overall.
    • Saw a mock draft with us taking Martin and left drafting pitcher Nick Swiney at 30 https://prospects365.com/2020/05/25/ray-butlers-2020-mlb-mock-draft/
    • The Frobster beat me to posting the Melewski interview by 13 minutes.   The article mentions the Os in on quality international prospects that we knew about including Samuel Basallo and Maikol Hernandez and one that I am not sure I have seen mentioned with the Os here - Wilmer Feliciano who will get a signing bonus just under $500k and has big left-handed power.  A reminder that none of these guys are signed, just apparently committed or agreed to the Os until they are signed. It seems like a very strong group of elite prospects given how late our current FO was to the game of signing this upcoming J2 class.   The payoff from these guys is likely years away, but I think there is a chance last year's class and this year's class should start impacting our top 30 prospects entering 2021.  How optimistic is it to think predict our next international signing to reach our top 10 would be by 2022?
    • Don’t have a subscription, but here’s an interview the author, Ben Badler, gave to Steve Melewski.   https://www.masnsports.com/steve-melewski/2020/06/baseball-americas-ben-badler-on-os-international-effort-video.html At the end of the video, Badler speculates that the next CBA will create an international draft.   He thinks the players will posture about and then “maybe they’ll trade it for a few extra inches of legroom on the bus.”    LOL!
    • Bad quality vid but its the only one that I found that shows Frohwirth's side of it. Back in that era Martinez grabs some pine 9 out of 10 times with that pitch.
