Mychal Givens

Yep .... The out of the baseline call is more umpire incompetency. Baseball just can't seem to get officiating cleaned up even with review assistance.

Apparently that type of play is not reviewable.  It was a terrible non call although Martin has to take the sure out at 1B there.

(vs. ANGELS, 7/28)

Givens was wild in the 9th inning tonight ........ but he also had to essentially get 4 outs when the umpire failed to make an obvious out-of-the-baseline call on Matt Thaiss, and he struck Mike Trout out with the potential tying run at 3rd base and less than 2 outs.

He took a bad angle and then dove. If he keeps between the base and the runner he gets him either way

IIRC, he caught the ball on the move with momentum going more towards first.  I don't think it is as easy as you're making it sound.  Bottom line, that run means nothing.  Easier play was just to throw to first for the sure out.

This a good example of the umpire being right on top of the call.

In my rat's ass of an opinion, last night's play was actually a little more egregious on the part of the base-runner ........ but the umpire didn't see it fit to make the call.

The article says his funky arm slot gives R and L hand batters Equal amounts of headaches.  That doesn't sound right.

It isn't.

Career splits:

RHB- 580 OPS

LHB- 743 OPS

I’m tired of the lack of consistency for a guy who has good stuff. He was very fortunate to get out of trouble last night after falling behind to almost every hitter.

(vs. NATIONALS, 8/27)

After Hunter Harvey gave the Orioles and their fans a scare by getting himself in and out of a bases-loaded jam in the 8th inning, Mychal Givens quickly and methodically disposed of the Nationals in the 9th ........ Groundout, Strikeout, Strikeout, all on only )11 Pitches )(8 )Strikes, )3 )Balls.)

I enjoy an O’s win over the Nats as much as a win over the Red Sox or Yankees!

Givens last 30 games,

32.0 IP, 30 G, 2.81 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 47/8 K/BB, 7 saves.

Outside of his terrible May, where Hyde was using him like Andrew Miller in a September playoff push, Givens has had a pretty good year.

I think teams know he can be a top setup(6-8 inning) guy. He’s murder on RH hitters. Closer is always going to be a shaky role for him because you don’t get to pick the part of the lineup you face and teams typically blow through their best PH. That means LH hitters. I would not be surprised for Elias to get a fair return in the offseason and move him.
