Our number one priority this offseason .....

Well, saying he is more tradeable than CC isn't really going out on a limb. Still looks like we're stuck with him at this point.

Eh, I could see a team giving that needs a pitcher giving us something close to nothing for him.

Market for marginal overpriced pitchers sure has dried up the last few years.

Once again I am not saying I agreed with the signing, just that it was a defensible deal.
I don't think that it was defensible. It seems that DD should have looked more carefully the particular numbers and the pattern of the numbers.
It was no more risky at the time then the Cruz or Markakis deals.
Cruz didn't get 4 yrs/50 M. He got 1 year for 2014. DD refused to give Cruz a 4th year for 2015, and thus Cruz walked and so did Markakis. Actually, DD offered Markakis a 4 year deal, and then rescinded the offer, supposedly because of medical problems (which were easily fixed with off-season surgery).
12.5 per isn't a lot of money anymore.
But is was before the 2014 season. Especially with an unprecedented 4 year contract.
I also think Ubaldo is a lot more tradeable then say Sabathia. (1/25M left with 5M buyout if his shoulder holds up)
Who is going to give up any players of any value for a reclamation project such as Ubaldo? Face it, he's not going anywhere unless DD is so desperate that he trades him for a bag of used baseballs. And I don't believe that DD is that desperate to get rid of a guy that he signed to such an unprecedented deal. He'd rather keep Ubaldo and hope that the coaches can get him on track.

If you don't think the Ubaldo deal was defensible (not good which is a different standard) then I really don't know what to tell you. You are obviously not willing to listen to opposing arguments.

I thought by grouping the Cruz and Markakis deals together it would be obvious I was talking about the deals they signed in 2015, sorry you failed to realize that.

I honesty don't know why you asked me to explain this stuff when you chose to ignore everything I wrote.

You should have been more forthright and simply said "You can't justify these moves to me so don't even bother trying."

We were having a nice conversation about DD's moves being justafiable or not. Just because someone disagrees with what you write and counters with their own analyses doesn't mean that they are discounting what you are saying.

Sometimes, people in discussions get to a point where they agree to disagree. We probably have reached this point here. That doesn't mean that I (or anyone else) is ignoring you.

It is when they refuse to listen to adequate arguments that oppose their views.

How high a bar do you have for what constitutes "justifiable"? I think you have to set to high.

I listen. And I put out different arguments. That doesn't constitute refusing to listen to your views. Your views are your views. So are mine. None of these views are the absolute gospel truth.
