Offseason Rumors and Deals Around MLB

Recommended Posts

I also prefer that lineup. I think Trumbo is going to have a big year. But if Davis doesn't suck for the next three years or so the net result could be a wash all things considered (e.g draft pick).

I think Upton on a six-year contract (till age 34) is going to end up a lot better than Davis on the seven-year (till age 37). Also, Upton's OBP is not as home run-dependent (seems to stay up despite oscillations in HR totals). I could see Upton shifting into a doubles-hitter with lots of walks and tough at-bats, whereas Davis' OBP will plummet once he's less of a homer threat and his K's sky-rocket even more. Jones and Upton wd have covered a lot of ground in the OF. Oh well.

Is there a listing of players with TUEs?

I know a disproportionate number of players claim to suffer from ADHD.

112 exemptions in 2014, 119 in 2013. But no list of names given; see far down into the article:

When Upton opts out after two years would we be able to replace him at $17M?

He likes the area, and apparently wanted to sign here. Maybe he doesn't demand opt out from us.

Even if he wanted to be here/stay--which I really don't put much stock into, why wouldn't he put in the opt out and command more money like ARod and CC?

I just don't think we are done with Cespedes. The White Sox figure to be in the fight to sign him, but again, I don't think we are out of it.

I would do a 1 or 2 year deal if he wants. I realize pitching is the priority, but if Cespedes signs with the Orioles, they would have the best offensive lineup in the sport.AND add a reasonable pitching arm..and look out. Agree or disagree?

I don't think the O's will pursue Cespedes now that Davis has signed. But you probably have more information on that than I do.

Upton

For Ilitch, of course, 2017 feels eons away. He lives for the present, pays for this moment, hems himself into an impossible future because right now is a drug and he’s jonesing for a fix. Let the future belong to others. He wants today.

It’s a gift to fans who hope the Ilitch spigot never turns off, that the 86 will blossom into 87 and 88 and beyond, that the $5.4 billion keeps growing so this fun experiment can continue. Nobody ever accused the Tigers of building a ballclub with the efficiency seen across most front offices today. That much is obvious. They’re building it their way, though, and anybody who begrudges Ilitch for trying to buy a championship is missing the point.

We're playing checkers while they are bowling.
