Penn's 4/13 Start

Recommended Posts

Norfolk is about to get started and Penn has 42 degree temperatures to deal with but gets a little help with a 11 mph wind blowing in from left field. My prediction: 5 IP, 2 ER, 5H, 3 BB, 3 SO.

At this point, that would be a good start for Penn. I know the conditions are not the best, but his first two starts were pretty poor. Combining that with his subpar performance in the AFL, and the one ST start I read about in the minor league section of OH, it seems that he's not all the way back after his surgery. Hopefully, he rounds into form, but I'm starting to wonder. I need to see a 6 or 7 IP 4 H 1 BB 9 K kind of a game to get excited about Penn again.

And I love how everyone was so quick to annoint Penn the 5th starter this ST.

Everyone overlooked his poor AFL and said that he was back and would be able to pitch well in the majors and we had no need for Trachsel.

Yeah, I'm trying to be realistically optimistic with my prediction today but I have a feeling he won't be back anywhere near his `06 AAA form for a while. No rush, give him a full year in AAA if needs be.

.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 ground out... call him up now. ;)

The grounder was hit pretty hard, right at the 3B. Second out on a line drive right at the 2B, and then a walk.

Just gave up a HR to some guy named Walker... I didn't know Chuck Norris was playing or I would have predicted a much worse line for Penn.

Highly rated prospect Neil Walker.

Highly rated prospect Neil Walker.

The Pirates may have a better lineup at AAA than they do in the majors.

McCutchen and Pierce are also excellent prospects, and there's a couple former major leaguers in Wilson and Wilson.

Moore is 0-2 with 2 K's. First K was swinging, second K was a borderline called third strike (but too close to take).

He hasn't had a ball hit near him yet.

Moore just had a groundball hit right at him.

The throw was offline (down the baseline towards the plate), but the 1B was able to catch it and do a swipe tag to get the out.

Penn got his first K for the third out.
