Nice had the same, all straight up plus the battle of the Fran's with Iowa over the Owls and VCU over the beavs. Got Coach L and the Hurricanes at plus 2 tomorrow putting a end to Van Fleet and Ron Baker's run. What a insane day of basketball I was telling my friends the endings to the UNI Texas game and then immediately after UC and St Joe's reminded me of the Longoria walk off then Andino walk off type madness.

Yeah I did too after the elation of victory. I mean he's gotta be thinking over and over again if I just released the ball a fraction earlier the game would be going to overtime. And at the same time it's such a bizarre scenario and it's not a difference of time that a human can really feel and compute while play is going on. There are all kinds of victory and defeat and this particularly one will definitely sting deeply.

It's not even as good as fricking Golf! It's like tennis. The ball goes down the court, then it goes up the court, then back down, then back up. It's like tennis at 1/10 the speed. :ohlord:

Masters in 3 or 4 weeks... :D

o

I think that the bracket is laughing at my picks.

I'm not even on the front page of the standings anymore.

Very interesting ......

I looked at the OVERALL YAHOO STANDINGS, and the top 5 leaders have all correctly picked 31 of the 32 games so far, INCLUDING picking Stephen F. Austin to beat West Virginia.

But all 5 of those people ALSO picked Michigan State to either win the National Championship, or at least make the Final Four.

I sense that there will be a lot of people catching up to them when all is said and done. ):scratchchinhmm:

I only have one other bracket this year that is for a work pool. Figured I would join this OH free one just for fun and picked my Terps the whole way. Didn't realize when you copy over your other bracket that when you make changes on one it changes them both. I had Kansas winning it all and a lot less upsets picked. Currently tied or alone in first for both. Umm go Terps.

    • He didn't exceed six innings pitched in any start this year.  Last season he pitched seven five times.  He never exceeded seven. The demands on a TOR guy are not what they once were but I think the occasional eight or even nine inning start is still expected.
    • On the gopheritis, Means is 13th out of 110 in HR/FB among SP with 40 IP. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=40&type=8&season=2020&month=0&season1=2020&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2020-01-01&enddate=2020-12-31&sort=15,d To some extent HR/FB is a "luck" outcome - analysts will probably look to his WHIP more than his ERA getting stoked for his 2021. As he's found his game this month, I also think he's set his Yield HR or BB? setting all the way to HR.  He's enjoying his progress and probably not suffering fools in the batters box. He's safely fended off the (light) Kremer/Akin challenge for the Opening Day assignment.
    • Too soon to know about the first issue.  His minor league track record was very good: 27, 27, 26 and 28 starts in a MiL environment where 28 is basically the max over a 140 game season.     I take your point about getting deep into games.   I was watching in the 6th, Means still working on a no hitter at the time and Garceau mentioned he was at 93 pitches.    How does your pitch count get that high when you’ve allowed one baserunner and still working in the 6th?   Still, TOR innings per start seems to be a moving target these days.  I count 8 pitchers this year who’ve made 10 starts and thrown 6+ innings per start.   There’s only 18 pitchers in MLB who qualify for the ERA title!  (That does not include innings from yesterday or the upcoming games today, so that number will increase, but still...)
    • https://art19.com/shows/baltimore-orioles-inside-the-yard-podcast   This one is a bit dated (aired on 8/25), but Steenstra talked about the pitchers at the Bowie alternate site. Said that Kremer came back a different pitcher this year, having picked up a couple of mph on his fastball and developed a cutter/slider.    Described him as very intellectual. Said Baumann is “an animal” on the mound with great velocity that carries through the zone.    Said he developed a very good curve ball over the winter to complement his fastball/slider combo. Said Zimmermann was 87-89 and throwing sinkers when we got him, now throws 94-95 with a four pitch mix. Hall has great stuff but working with him to make delivery consistent and combat bouts of wildness.    Rodriguez had gotten to camp a bit later so didn’t talk much about him. Sounds like they had the starters built up to 5 innings and were facing a lot of the same hitters over and over because only 7 position players in camp and one of them has to be catching.    Three catchers in camp.   They were using Trackman to call balls and strikes so guys like Hall and Rodriguez were experiencing a major league strike zone.
    • The cherry pick leaderboard, custom with 9/3 start date to exclude the last bad Mets start before "the Talk": https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=al&qual=y&type=1&season=2020&month=1000&season1=2020&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2020-09-03&enddate=2020-09-30&sort=9%2Cd I would have said AL Pitcher of Month candidate, but Cole has been Cole, and apparently Chris Bassitt has a 0.34 ERA this month.  (I still think the A's might not use him next week). I suspect he'll progress from being like a $5 pitcher to like a $12 pitcher in the LABRs/Touts of the world, as a proxy for how gamers value his expected future superficial stats.
    • I agree.  Some folks think he should be considered untouchable in trade talks and I don't know why. He looks like a useful piece, when healthy, but he didn't look like an overpowering weapon out there.
    • Two issues I see for Means. He seems to get dinged up, he's missed time in both 2019 and 2020 with minor injuries.  You generally consider a TOR guy to be durable. He doesn't go deep enough into games.    This is 2020 I'm not expecting him to throw a dozen complete games but a TOR guy needs to eat some innings and Means hasn't shown that yet.
