Wayne Kirby's Outfield Positioning (A rant thread)

Recommended Posts

Well, you actually can, they call it a hate crime.

Are you certain? Let's drop the politics and current events though. Besides, this place belongs to a fellow. It's not public property. He can invite and eject anyone he chooses!

Theoretical question pertaining to what has been re-titled as a rant thread: you are coaching Little League ( which I did years ago btw) would you have your outfielders playing gap defense or not? I am serious here so only serious answers please as I would find it appalling if the answer is yes!

Now that you mention the "Little League" thing let me ask you another question that would actually clarify things a bit. If you are playing a team that has the overall leader in Homer Runs, Batting Average and Runs Batted In and you are ahead by three runs with them having Two Runners on third and second do you pitch to this player??? Or do you walk him???

I think you always have to walk Jack Parkman. With an open base. Or stick on in his ribs.

In Little League you never would intentionally walk the bases loaded as it puts too much pressure on the pitcher not to walk in runs. In the majors I would probably do it with one out for dure to set up the double play and possibly even with two outs depending on the matchup with the next hitter.

You answer your own question. Just give it a little thought.
