Orioles inquired about Melvin Upton, Jr (BlueJays)

Recommended Posts

Wow, Toronto beat us out. Might be a pretty decent A prospect. From SD's perspective, they don't have to take on Jimenez' contract. Easier deal to make. I'm not going to lose sleep over this. Maybe we'll see Stewart jump back to health?

It isn't hard to beat the negative value of Ubaldo.

No way I wanted to see Upton sucking down 18 million to provide about what Nolan Riemold provides for

2 million. Go get Jay Bruce if we want to pick up an OF'er.

But target should be Hellickson

I guess you missed the part where they were trying to off load Ubaldo and his salary in the trade.

Hellickson would be nice. They (the Phillies) won't have a need for Mancini or Sisco.....they have young players performing well at those positions on the MLB club.

I imagine they will want pitching. Peralta and Scott? May seem like a lot to give up for a two month rental.....but that is likely the price. Other teams may be able to offer arms that are closer to being finished products.

Nothing against you, you may be right on asking price, but there is no way I would give up Peralta and Scott for a rental. Being honest, I am not really interested in giving up either one of them for a rental. If Dan can't get a rental that might be an upgrade on the cheap, then I am fine rolling with what we have. A lot of these rentals fall into that might be an upgrade category, and I don't want to overpay for that.

I can't stand the Jays, but am not really upset about Upton.

Upton is an upgrade over Reimold, both offensively and defensively, would have come significantly cheaper in terms of prospects than Jay Bruce (even as a two-month rental in Bruce's case) and the Orioles still have Ubaldo's contract.

Also, it's easy to say "go get Jay Bruce," but who are you going to trade for him? It's not like the Reds would be interested in Mancini-plus since they have Votto locked up for the long term.

Fixed that for you.

Scott straight up for Hellickson would be a steal based on the current value of the players involved. I don't think the Phillies would do that though. They will have better offers out there. I wasn't advocating dealing Peralta + for Hellickson just think that would be the cost. Hellickson is really dealing now, which is just going to increase the demand. The Phillies will get a nice return...from someone.
