What? Orioles say if there is a 3-way tie for 2 wild-cards, they want to risk it on 1 game?

Don't we all just love the genuises in the MLB commisioners office?

I would think playing at home would better. Even 1 game.

Hard to believe how tough the road is for the Tigers. They need for the Jays and O's to both lose today, plus they must:

- Win today in Atlanta

- Win tomorrow in Cleveland

- Win Tuesday in Toronto or else

- Win Wednesday in Baltimore

Unless I've missed something, they don't need the Jays and Orioles both to lose today. Just one or the other.

You are correct, but if they both lose it could make their path even longer. First sentence should have been, "Hard to believe how tough the road could be for the Tigers."

Don't forget that Detroit still might have to play a makeup game on Mon. Detroit could be playing in 4 different cities on 4 different days, counting today. By choosing the one game option you get rest, no travel and a home game against a team that could be spent.

Any thoughts on how tickets would be put on sale for a one game play in game?

I'd guess a public sale tomorrow after Tigers game...?

That would be a rush to sell that many tickets last minute.

I get trying to think strategically but at this point the only focus should be getting in.

With a streaky team like this it doesn't benefit us to put all our eggs in one basket.

I'd much rather have to chances and hope that our offense can pound out a couple home runs in at least one of those games

I like it. If you're going to win, go deep. Don't play scared. If you have the losers mentality of "Hey 2 games are better than 1" You're more susceptible to lose. This way there is no tomorrow and you put it all on the line in one game.

That sounds great except that it is completely irrational. Oh well, in DD we trust, right?

Wouldn't really have any other options unless they start today...

Sad to think the O's are looking for a one game playoff. This team lead the majors

with wins.If they win today hard to say they win tomorrow. They don't click.I'm a

O's fan but the Fat Lady did sing.

So if I'm reading this correctly, we're in the "playoffs" regardless of what happens today on the field, right?

The worst we can be is 88-74, which is the best the Tigers can be after today and their makeup game tomorrow.

So we'll either play in Toronto on Tuesday, or in Baltimore on Wednesday, correct?

Well, not necessarily. If the Jays win, Tigers win BOTH of their games and then the O's lose, Toronto's in the WC game and the O's and Tigers would play for the other spot.

You're correct that the O's season doesn't end today, no matter what happens. But Toronto can pass them and claim a definitive spot.

It is a tricky situation. Hope we don't have to worry about it.

    • Different situation ..... Mountcastle hit .312/.344/.527 in 544 at bats in 2019 at AAA. He was clearly ready and I'm not sure how you think the Bowie time impacted that. He started at the Bowie camp only because there was no AAA. He started at the Bowie camp to delay the clock.
    • Agreed.   But I would not say it’s impossible that Hess could become a credible major league pitcher.    Not too likely, but stranger things have happened.
    • I think because of the way that 2020 went, level/placement will be more of a combination of scouting and performance than just performance. For Rutschman, that means that while you can justify starting him at lower levels, you also likely have enough to go on to start him in Baltimore on opening day if you really wanted. That argues for a AA assignment, though A+ wouldn't shock me I guess. On Diaz, I personally believe that he has already shown he's ready for AAA. So, for me, that means I'd assign him to AAA. From there, he has issues that he needs to work on, most notably his availability and production over time. He has flashed nicely at times, but then he inevitably has missed time for various reasons and tends to start slow upon return. That seems to have suppressed his stats. Also, I honestly think there's a red flag in there somewhere with Diaz. I think the O's like the talent more than the make up. If he's traded, I wouldn't be shocked at all. I also acknowledge that I'm reading between the lines here and have no strong evidence, for what it's worth.
    • Actually, you are right.   Not only was Hector Velazquez on the original 60 man roster so was Rob  Zastryzny.  I will add both of them to the OP. Good catch.
    • Hess and Arrieta should never be mentioned in the same sentence unless it to say they were both once drafted, developed and pitched for the Orioles.
    • You are right..it’s not the answer I’m looking for because it’s not an answer to the question you were asked. If I ask you, what is your favorite color and you tell me a banana, that is an answer and it’s not one I’m looking for..that doesn’t mean in insulting you, it just means that trying to discuss this with you when you clearly don’t want to answer the questions and you want your agenda is a waste of time.
