Central Florida ...... From 0-12 to 12-0 in 2 seasons (First Team Ever)

Recommended Posts

o

Central Florida became the first Division I school ever to go from winless to undefeated in the regular season in a 2-year span (2015-2017.)

2015: ... 0-12

2017: l.. 11-0

Central Florida's previous head coach George O'Leary also went winless in his first season with the team in 2004 (0-11.)

And similar to current head coach Scott Frost, O'Leary eventually led the team to the heights of Division I-A football with a 12-1 season and a 52-42 victory over #6 Baylor in that season's Fiesta Bowl ........ but that was in 2013, 9 seasons after his inaugural winless season with the team.

Central Florida beat Memphis State in overtime to win the American Athletic Conference Championship game today.

They went from 0-12 to 12-0 in 2 years.

2015: ... 0-12

2017: llll 12-0

Also, this is Central Florida's 2nd trip to an upper-tier bowl game in 5 years, with the previous one being a big victory over over #6 Baylor in the 2013 season's Fiesta Bowl ........ not bad a school that didn't have a football program until 1979, and didn't moved up from Division I-AA to Division I-A until 1996.

ONE YEAR LATER (December 1st, 2018)

The Knights lost Archie Griffin Award winner McKenzie Milton for the season last week in the season finale against South Florida.

Subsequently, they needed a big game from 2nd-string Freshman QB Darriel Mack, Jr. in today's AAC Championship game against Memphis State ........ and got one.

Got to win the first one first.

Teams declare themselves champion, and they did.  There is no D1 football champ according to the NCAA.

Central Florida was dealt a big blow when they lost their Archie Griffin Award winner and 2-time AAC Player of the Year quarterback McKenzie Milton to an injury on the last game of the regular season.

With a 2nd-string quarterback they battled valiantly, but came up short of repeating what they did last year against Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

40-32, LSU over Central Florida.

Congratulations to LSU, 2018 season Fiesta Bowl champions.
