Rule 5 Target - Nestor Cortes - LHP

Recommended Posts

Castro’s stuff looks amazing today.

97-98 fastball

87 sharp slider

90-91 changeup

He’s quick to the plate but he’s sacrificing a few mph with the slide step.

I have been pulling for Cortes all spring training and it does look like he will travel north.

Hope so.  Hope he gets the starts until Cobb comes back.

Edit:  whoops.  I meant Castro getting the starts.

congrats to Cortes for making the team.

His command is there. Just yielded a SB on a 97mph fastball in spite of the slide step.

Another K for Castro. 6K in 3 innings.

Wow, filthy. Facing the Phillies' starters too.

And that’s been a concern with him, not missing enough bats.

How much tougher does it look after the hitters face Cortes?

Castro was making these guys look stupid today. His changeup was diving out of the zone big time.

Could be a winning combo going forward!

Right? That's why he was so good in the minors. He would mess around with his arm angle on breaking balls, change up his timing to the plate. Did we get him and immediately restrict him to one arm angle and give him the TTTP spiel? Because that's what it looks like.

If so, he's just any other lefty with a 88 mph fastball and he's not going to last.

If so, the Orioles continue to make the wrong choices on getting the best out of their pitchers.

A lot of “if so’s” here.    What makes you think the O’s have done any of that?     I doubt they have.
