2019 Draft Order Tracker

Recommended Posts

The Reds took the loss earlier today but we fought hard and were able to keep pace with them in the Bobby Witt jr. Sweepstakes for first pick in the draft in 2019 even with Gausman trying his best to make us fall a game behind the Reds by pitching 9 inning shutout ball.

Dave: Is Bobby Witt Jr someone who could end up being the next “super prospect”, like Harper or Griffey?
Keith Law: I don’t think so. Good prospect, but also just the name you know because of his bloodlines.

Gausman--not a team player.

He is only underclassman in this years preseason all American list.  He is heads and shoulders above other guys and most say he was way ahead of Royce Lewis who was number 1 pick last year.

It’s very rare that the guy considered the likely no. 1 pick a year in advance turns out to be the no. 1 pick a year later.    Ask Pedro Alvarez.

Will Witt compare to Correa in Houston?

The odds are strongly against it.   Correa is already 24th in career rWAR among 52 overall no. 1 picks, and presumably will be in the top 5-10 of that group when he’s done if he stays healthy.

I bet if you made a list of the top 100 players who were ever drafted out of high school, maybe 3-4 of them were overall no. 1 picks.   ARod, Chipper Jones, Griffey and Mauer.   Mauer is 4th on the list of overall no. 1 picks but 150th in career WAR overall.  Next is Adrian Gonzalez who is 285th in career WAR.

Does Harper count as a high school player? Technically, he played a year in college - but he had dropped out, got his GED, and was 17 when he was drafted.

What is likely Witt to hit for numbers on the MLB level.  Perennial all-star?

Wouldn't it be nice if you could look at all the high school players around the country and predict who will be a perennial MLB all star.  It'd save teams so much money on scouting.   :)

Took the words right out of my mouth.  I remember a former poster here, who shall not be named but liked to use Snoopy avatar, made several "Pedro Alvarez race" threads, hoping the Orioles would tank to get that elite talent.

He’s not even the consensus first pick, dumb thread.

We can use this thread to post the updated standings as regards the order of the 2019 MLB Draft. The draft order is determined by overall records and the teams with the worst winning percentages select first, second, third, etc...
Ties are broken using the previous year's standings, with worst record winning the tiebreaker. Therefore, in the event of a tie at season's end, the Orioles will pick before KC.
I'll update the thread and this OP,  hopefully each day/night.

The draft standings updated after Saturday's games-- 8/25/18.
--In the event of a tie at season's end, the Orioles will pick before KC--

1. Orioles 37-93 (.285)

2. Royals 40-90 (.308)  /  3.0 GB

3. Padres 50-82 (.379)  / 12.0 GB --Did this to illustrate that it is a two-team 'race'--

This particular post will no longer be updated. I'll just continue doing the updates as they occur at the end of the thread.

Hey KC, we tried to help you in May, taking 2 of 3 head-to-head

In the race to the bottom, what happens first?  O's trade Machado or KC trades Moustakas?
