Does Jones look real good in RF?

Weren't folks questioning his effort level out there the other day?

I haven't seen every game since he's moved but I've seen a few.  He looks pretty good out there to me, but compared to some of what we've become accustomed to seeing in the corner outfield the last few years he looks outstanding

Why wouldn’t we keep Cobb? We’re paying him to pitch well and surely there’s value in that if there won’t be prospects coming back.

Because we’re going to lose 100 games next year as well. We just all need to except that. With that being said, it’s stupid to keep Cobb, Cashner, Trumbo, and Beckham around in some hopes that we will be able to deal them at the deadline for some minor prospects. That’s like $30-40 million in payroll right there for not a very realistic outcome.

We’re obviously not trading these guys in August, but maybe a team in the NL bites on Cobb. Maybe Jones waives his NTC. Trumbo should be dumped in the off season. Beckham should be non tendered. Cobb and Cashner should be basically dumped as well.

You don’t rebuild with a big payroll and 110 losses. Those losses will come with a low payroll. Don’t worry. It’s all about finding cheap/controllable assets for 2021. I’m saying 2021 because look at the Sox and Yankees, they are loaded.  We’re in the AL East, we need to get serious about this rebuild.

Haven't seen a lot of him in RF but he looks suprsingly slow out there.

If Cobb pitches in the first half of next season the way he has in the second half of this season (ERA just over 2.00; 1.1 WHIP), he'd likely bring the O's a top prospect in trade.

Teams are loath to trade away top prospects.

Yes, they are. But the Pirates did it for Archer, and Cobb with 2.5 years left on his contract might be more valuable than Archer.

So you’re telling me we can risk paying $10 million between now and next July to see if he pitches well to bring back a top prospect?  Well if we wanted a top prospect guaranteed, for no risk, we could’ve kept O’day, and got a top prospect from the Braves.

Maybe I’m a little jaded by the Gausman trade, but if we’re cuttinf payroll, then let’s hit rock bottom. Dump Cobb, Cashner, and Trumbo for anything. Non tender Beckham. Trade Villar in the offseason.

If we’re dumping salary, then dump it all. What are we going to do, lose 120?  Haha.

If we trade Cobb just to dump salary, we have to go out and pay someone to replace him in the winter.

No they won't. Not for two years.

In two years he would. Not next year. If he is still pitching well and not injured.

Of course we can do that with Cobb. There's no need to sell low on a very good pitcher.

Bundy, Hess, Yacobonis, Yefry, Castro, Bleier, Rogers, Means, AAA/AA “prospects”. Heck bring Tyler Wilson back from Korea. We’re losing 100 anyway next year. At least find someone that will be here in 2021.

5+ ERA. 15+ losses. Poor K numbers. Cobb is far from Archer. Cobb is a salary dump right now.

If he's really that bad, why would any club take him and absorb his salary?
