Angels may seek to extend Trout this offseason

Recommended Posts

Sheryl Ring of Fangraphs points out that under California law, employment contracts of more than seven years are illegal, and if Trout signed one with the Angels, he’d be able to void the deal at the end of the seventh year if he chose.   So, automatic opt-out by law.   https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/could-the-angels-really-give-mike-trout-a-lifetime-contract/

Make it six years with an option for a seventh.

Point is, they can’t make it 8.    And I seriously doubt that an employer option would solve any illegalities.

Didn't Pujols sign for 10 with the Angels?

He did, and as I understand it, he could elect to void the remaining 3/$87 mm on his contract after this season.    Something tells me he won’t do that.

My in-laws in the Philly area are holding out hope that Trout (a Jersey native and huuuge Eagles fan) is going to eventually leave LAA and come home to the Phillies.  Should I tell them there's no hope?    :(

If I'm Trout I'm  testing the FA market.  Even with him the Angels are a bad team, whereas he'd make a very good team even better.

Man it's remarkable that since Trout became an every day player for the Angels in 2012 they have only made the playoffs once and never won a playoff game.

Scioscia's contract appears to be up after this year.........is there any speculation on what might happen to him?

Some guys want the most money.

Some guys want to win.

Some guys want to be comfortable.
