Matt Wieters

How would folks feel about bringing Matt back on a 1 year deal? I think he knows he's a backup mostly at this stage. Was always a good teammate and I remember him always being a mentor and a clubhouse leader.

Maybe he could help mentor Chance and show him the ropes so to speak.

I'd rather not with the way his defense has declined.

Would you even be suggesting this if he wasn't a former Oriole? There are plenty of fish in the sea and plenty of them aren't former Orioles.

What if we wake up one day to find out we've signed Wieters, Markakis, Jones, Schoop, Britton and Machado? To be clear, I'm not advocating for this, or even saying it's possible. It would just be a bizarre turn of events to say the least.

I think almost all of the 2014 and 2016 Orioles lineup are free agents right now, besides the one we actually kept 😛

No. He is past his prime. IMO

I'd think I was having a nightmare.

There’s no doubt he’s past his prime.     That’s not a matter of opinion, it’s a matter of fact.    I still like the guy.     My guess is he earns $1.5-2 mm somewhere to be a backup.

    • I was looking at the pitching free agents available over at MLBtraderumors.com, and I remember thinking that we are going to look at the worst guy in the pile, and then manage to find someone worse.
    • It had an assist from generic rooting for Game 7 and more baseball, but being in the Astros corner for that rally (perhaps marking high water mark of Nate Eovaldi career attainment) was a fun 8th/9th inning. I didn't love still using Pressly with the big lead, but looking at Roster Resource everybody but tonight's bulk hero Cristian Javier had pitched yesterday except Odorizzi, so Dusty maybe didn't have another option besides sending Jake Odorizzi down there to try and warm up hastily as they were making it 9-2.   Top of Red Sox lineup got precious looks at Pressly going towards last three games. I guess we get Framber v. Sale/Houck tomorrow afternoon.
    • I thought it would be interesting to keep up with all the different players who are projected by different publications for the Orioles to choose as the top draft pick in 2022. Of course some of these publications will have much more merit than others but I'll list everything I come across just for the sake of interest. Initially, here is what I see: Elijah Green.   https://throughthefencebaseball.com/2022-mlb-mock-draft-1-0-elijah-green-brooks-lee/ Brooks Lee.  http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft Terrmarr Johnson.   https://medium.com/minor-league-madhouse/2022-mlb-mock-draft-end-of-season-edition-ae9f30e87719 Druw Jones.   https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2021/10/3/a-why-so-soon-2022-mlb-mock-draft
    • We need ILBs that push Queen to special teams.
    • Dodgers Will Smith 3.28.1995, 32nd pick in the draft from Louisville Lamar Jackson 1.7.1997, 32nd pick in the draft from Louisville Working out pretty well for both clubs. These are the kinds of things that four+ hour 8.5 inning games let you think up. Smith settling into cleanup for a juggernaut as a 26-year-old catcher - go get' em Adley. Fantastic game today making it a series* - Dodgers have first franchise 3-run rally late in postseason to set alongside franchise record for Wins this year.   Evan Phillips today's streamer adding his bit to the data set at David Price's expense around RP10 being >>> SP4 in baseball world with these roster rules.   I imagine it feels somewhat incorrect to Friedman he can't option him tonight. *I probably still might have guessed Dodgers ~20% shot even if they lost today.
    • Good to hear that he is already undergoing chemotherapy and that he has the right mindset to beat this terrible enemy.
    • Adley will help to improve the team some, but he cannot create talent where there is pitifully little.  Now with all the high draft choices and the horrible records of the past few years, of course one would expect to see some improvement in W/L.  But as my 95 year Grandmother always  said before she passed on,  YOU CANNOT MAKE A SILK PURSE OUT OF A SOWS EAR.  Same applies to baseball talent.  You cannot  come up with enough talent in the short term, and maybe a little beyond,  to  overcome  all the sins of  the previous number of years.
