at Rays 3/9

Recommended Posts

O's go down quietly in the top of the first.

Bundy starts the bottom half with an 11-pitch battle against Austin Meadows, who bloops a single into left. Then another single, and the Rays are in business.

Brandon Lowe (pronounced like it rhymes with "cow," for some reason), rips a single just past the SS, who was shaded toward second base. A run scores. Bundy off to a sluggish start.

And now another RBI single, this one by Yandy Diaz. Bundy has given up four straight singles to start the game.

Kiermaier hits a possible DP ball to short, but the relay and feed at second is a bit slow and Mountcastle can't hold on to the ball at first. Fielder's choice, and now runners at the corners with one out.

Robertson caps a seven-pitch AB with a sac fly to center. 3-0 Rays. Bundy has thrown 26 pitches already in the first.

Almost in mid-season form. :new_beer::new_beer:

The Rays put three infielders on the left side against Joey Rickard, and he pokes one right where the second baseman normally would've been for a single.

Is a shift really necessary against Joey Rickard, of all people?

Just now, Philip said:

How bad was the Mountcastle play? Was it his fault or because of a poor throw?

It was a bad throw, I think. In the dirt. A more experienced first baseman might've been able to pick it, though.

Escobar hits a slow roller to third. The 3B makes a bad throw to first that the 1B can't pick. Runners at the corners.

And now Ryan Mountcastle smacks a first-pitch single, once again beating the Rays' shift, and Rickard scores. O's trail 3-1.

Drew Jackson with a tapper to the left of the mound. The pitcher Kittredge makes a nice barehanded play and fires to first to nip him.

If it had been the regular season, the O's might have called for a replay. Jackson might've been safe.

Either way, Escobar scores, and now it's 3-2.

Just saw that first inning from Bundy, he got pretty unlucky. Results don't matter in spring training so whatever. He still needs to recognize that hitters are swinging at everything, he's not using nearly enough sliders. I feel like every first pitch from him is a fastball, and every hitter is swinging.

Susac walks on a very close pitch. The inning continues. Kittredge has been nickel-and-dimed to death this inning.
