2019 Washington Nationals

As long as he is good enough, I am sure Strasburg will have 125+ pitches to try and do throwback Jack Morris things tomorrow but if it ends up just a regular game then I will be curious to see if they trust or shy away from Corbin after Sunday's meltdown.

Watching Game 3, I felt they should have gone to Corbin for Pederson/Muncy third time through despite Anibal's effectiveness.  Muncy cutting it to 2-1 kind of uncorked the bottle.

Kershaw comes in and one out later gives up back-to-back solo homers! Nats / Dodgers tied at 3-3 in the top of the 8th. Maeda in to pitch.

"Why?" because you thought Kersh was going to shut the Nats down? He does have that poor post-season record and the loss in his start earlier in the series.

If it was a random game in June he would have shut them down. He is the poster child for the idea that anti-clutchitude exists. There is a much bigger chunk of counter evidence that suggests it doesn’t. Then there is Kershaw. Why????

Cards over Braves, Nats over Dodgers: This is the aspect of baseball's playoffs I really dislike. We're about to see two teams that totaled 203 wins eliminated by two teams that won 184 games. But I understand why MLB does it.

    • Felix Hernandez opts out of the season.¬† He was on a minor league contract with the Braves but was probably going to make the team.
    • I have not read¬†that the following international players are working out with the team.¬† They seem to be held out of workouts so far while testing is occurring or I have just not read anything about them. ¬† These O's international players include: Dominicans: ¬†Castro Mexico: Hector Velazquez, Valdez Venezuela: Santander (Nunez, Severino, Alberto. Iglesias,¬†Herrera I¬†have read are¬†working out on the field which means they¬†tested negative.)
    • Why would a large number of the high dollar guys not play? My understanding is players get a year of service time whether they play or not.
    • Look at all the pitchers on the Orioles' roster.¬† They all show up at camp and they all need somebody to throw the ball to, whatever the heat index may be. How would you like to be a catcher at this camp?
    • https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callinectes_sapidus https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portunus_armatus beginning to doubt whether I could tell the difference¬† ¬†
    • Tbf, he would have had a 1.000 obp in that historical split,¬†taking a ball to the head
    • Don't know what food has to do with anything. ERA+ of 78 and 99 the past two years.¬† Increased walk rate for three years in a row.¬† If I'm going to eat my words as @Frobbysaid I would, it'll be because he's out of the AL East.¬† Look at his results against the division for the past 3 years...by and large, it's not pretty.¬†¬† He serves up dingers at a really good¬†rate if you're the opposition.¬† I dunno, sometimes he throws a gem but it's quickly offset by a complete disaster.¬† 2018 was forgettable for many reasons, one of which was the game he started against KC and didn't get anyone out but gave up 4 homers in a row.¬†¬† Other than the fact that he was homegrown and we had high hopes for him, I am not sure why his (lack of) production will be missed as I think it can be replaced.¬† I think the board generally tends to favor guys that come up through our ranks, especially ones with lofty projections.¬† I don't care that Bundy didn't live up to his hype, most draft picks don't.¬† I just don't think he was very good and not all of that blame rests on his shoulders, btw.
