Hyde's Decisions 2019

I love how some posters assume that Hess is currently sobbing in the back of the locker room (while curled up in the fetal position) because Hyde somehow someway "disrespected" him. Where is the confidence?! Where is the love?!

I guess those posters didn’t watch Hess’s postgame interview.    He admitted he was “shocked” that Hyde took him out but was very good humored and gracious about it and said the appreciated that Hyde’s first concern was his long term health.

In 1980 the Athletics had 94 complete games.  Then their entire staff had arm issues a couple years later and that was the end of that.

I don’t like it, but fact is pitchers don’t throw complete games anymore.  And with the advent of the opener, I don’t see treatment of pitchers reversing course any time soon.

He hid it well. True professional.

He was SO happy talking with Pedro. I bet he went in the Laundry cart too.

I was kind of upset the second he was pulled.  But then I realize that was more because I was going to miss out on the excitement of him going for the no hitter.  I can live with him taking out Hess.  I just dont like him bringing in Pedro there.  Also I think he is overusing guys in the Pen.  They need to bring another pitcher up.  They need to decide what is more important keeping Pedro or having two utility guys.

What a bunch of bull hockey.   I just hate it when people can’t accept that there are two sides to an issue because of their own feelings.   Don’t insult me by telling me I’m arguing just to argue.   The manager, Jim Palmer, Rick Dempsey and lots of posters agree with our side of this argument.   If you want to argue the other side, go ahead, but don’t tell me why I’m making the opposite argument.    I’m doing it because that’s what I believe, for the reasons I gave.

Well HE double hockey sticks! You are a lawyer. You are paid to argue professionally. So not much of a stretch really....

But I am sure ripping a kid, pegged as bullpen fodder by most on here, out of his possible career pinnacle (in a season that means absolutely nothing record-wise) makes perfect logical sense to you.

Thanks doc.

I do my best. Would you suggest he complain? The laugh and shock on the mound should have made my point more succinctly. Did you miss that?

So late to this...

Trust the process.

The O's are 3-1.  I'd rather have that than a no hitter.  Although I thought we might be getting one of these today

I’d feel like a bit of a hypocrite if I was so on board with Elias and his moves and jumping ship when his chosen manager makes data-driven decisions.

So I won’t. I support the move.

I gave any hope of the combined no-no the moment Araujo jogged in from the bullpen.

My only issue is that a no-hitter is special and Hyde should have given Hess the opportunity to decide himself if he wanted to go for it. At least consult him in the dugout before the inning started.

I understand that Hess pitched on Thursday and it is the beginning of the season and all that. I was pretty upset when it happened but now I've calmed down and understand Hyde's reasoning. I still think he should've let Hess go for it.
