Can Means become the Orioles’ version of Kuechel?

Kudos to you!! You really watch this team? I can't be that masochistic. Nine innings of waiting for the implosion is not healthy.

Watching the young guys and players I never expected to amount to anything is part of the fun. Yes, fun. Means and Alberto are in the latter category. Santander, Stewart and Harvey are in the former.

Nine innings of looking for a diamond in the rough is what I’d call it. Perspective changes a lot.

Lot of interesting players to divert attention from the losing.

Means' 10th victory makes him the first Oriole to get back into double-digits since Bundy (13-9) and Gausman (11-12) in 2017.

(SEPTEMBER 5th)

John Alan Means appears to have gradually bounced back since the outing just prior to his minor injury last month.

He had a bad outing in his final game prior to the injury against the Diamondbacks, and another bad one in his first game back against the Yankees after coming off of the IL.

In the outing after that (also against the Yankees), he showed sings of dominance in the first 3 innings before the New Yorkers smacked him around in the 4th.

Then he pitched reasonably well (not great, not bad) against the Royals.

Then he had what was arguably his best outing of the season against the Rays, throwing 7 Innings of 1-Run Ball.

Then he followed that up with another solid outing in his most recent game, throwing 7 Innings of 2-Run Ball against the Royals.

In his last 3 outings combined, he has a 2.37 ERA and an 0.842 WHIP with 2 Walks and 15 Strikeouts over 19 Innings Pitched.

Starting to think he's for real.  Obviously, he needs to repeat his performance next year.  Can't be a one year wonder.

He's bounced back.  I think we were all a bit worried that the other shoe was dropping for him after the all-star break where he wasn't that sharp.

He's improved over the last three starts.  Not sure what that's attributed to, either he's fixed any mechanical flaws or he's made adjustments to the hitters.  Or both.  It's good to see.

I really thought it was over for Means after his post all star break struggles. At the very least the Orioles can pencil in Means and Bundy into the starting rotation for 2020.

Players like Means, Alberto and others have made this year more enjoyable than I expected.

It could very well have been due to the minor injury that landed him on the 10-Day IL.

The progression of his starts since then (the one right before the IL stint up until his most recent start) seem to bear that out as a real possibility, as I asserted in my previous post.

In the first 6 innings, Means retired 18 out of the 19 batters that he faced ........ and the only batter that reached safely in that span was on an infield single.

In his last 4 outings combined, he has a 2.45 ERA and an 0.779 WHIP with 2 Walks and 19 Strikeouts over 25.67 Innings Pitched.
