I thought it was just something he said for the hometown fans.

Could be.  I figured it was a play to get some input into where he got traded.

That could also be true.

First, Jones turns down a deal to the Phillies in 2018, then Cashner in 2019? Gonna give Andy and Matt a complex.

Last I checked he wasn't on pace for it to vest.  Red Sox can manipulate his starts to keep it from vesting pretty easily.

97. 1 innings and needs 187 to convert it to a player option.  Although if he does well, he might be a cheap 5th starter replacement at 10 million  for them next year as the team has the option if he doesn’t get to 187.

I guess Givens will go for a bag of balls if this is what we get for Cashner.

Maybe they will be 2014 balls and we can slip them to our starters when the Yankees are in town?

Givens may be more valuable than Cashner.

Eh...I don’t disagree, but if the Red Sox make the playoffs and he contributes, it’s a game changer. Too early to tell if I like the deal. Don’t even know if we got rid of money. Sounds like we ate some.

Possible, but Rosenthal is already speculating that he’d be an unlikely playoff roster addition if the Sox make it, given the guys they should get back from the IL by then.

Definitely is. While I don't think he brings back a guy sniffing the top 100, he should at least bring back a somewhat intriguing guy.

Given the control he has left, he should be.

And how important relievers are vs. back of the rotation starters (Cashner).

This is going to hurt badly this year, O's have no one that can fill Cashner's spot. The prospects are hopefully good ones in a few years, We'll see.

Hopefully something closer than a couple 17 year olds to making the major league team.
