Wild Thing. The Troggs. Was a great song in the mid sixties.

I don’t remember why we dumped Valera, but I do remember complaining about it on the grounds that he’d been good for us in his brief time.

I certainly know why no one traded for Villar.

    • Definitely not enough to pay all the MiL salaries.    Still, an incredible gesture.
    • Yes, you’re correct, I wonder what the details are? The point that the owners are impossibly cheap remains valid, however.
    • Well, the point has been made already, so this is a discussion best retired, but I thought of a response to your comment about service time. A free agent who has signed a high dollar contract can easily sacrifice a partial year of that contract, so a year of service would not detrimentally affect him.  Yes, he is losing his prorated salary for this season, but he’s already got his money, so who cares. The kids, on the other hand, would benefit, because a year of service time moves each player closer to free agency and even if they play all 60 games this year, there will be less wear and tear on their bodies, so they could conceivably make extra money when they sign those wonderful free agent contracts. So I think in the long run, service time issues will be irrelevant for the older players and a benefit to the younger ones.
    • I don’t think that’s possibly true. That’s 20 guys making $10k for the whole year. The math doesn’t work at all.
    • Think about that for a second. The entire dodger minor-league system cost only $200,000, yet the owners refused to step up.
    • Roch says in his article today that he hasn't seen Dwight Smith Jr or Anthony Santander on the field yet.  DJ Stewart certainly will get many at bats if either or both are out.  They are saying that to get the extra year of service time players like Mountcastle will only have to be down for a week.  It seems he will get a chance sooner than later. Also Roch added in another article that Alex Cobb and Mychael Givens have not been spotted as well.
    • I couldn't remember a single name either and I am sure you have already looked it up, but for anyone else who was wondering: Right-hander Dylan Bundy, one of the longest-tenured Orioles, was dealt Wednesday to the Los Angeles Angels for four pitching prospects — right-handers Isaac Mattson, Kyle Bradish, Zach Peek and Kyle Brnovich. Bundy was my favorite pitcher to watch the last couple of years (when he wasn't being tee'd off and pitching reasonably well) and he was having a fantastic spring (yea I know...SSS), so I will be rooting for him this year.   And hopefully catch a start if it all possible.
