Question about Blach

Recommended Posts

Wasn’t sure where to put this question so here goes:

I missed the game but wanted to ask if Blach was ok? The results aren’t good but the defense destroyed the game. Did he pitch well enough to warrant another chance?

How bad would a guy have to be to not get a second chance on this team?

When he left the mound he had given up 3 runs with two guys still on base.  A ground ball double play would have made his line look good.

Well, I probably misstated my question, which is basically whether he’s better than his bottom line, which was not helped by the awful defense.

I remember Dan hired a washed up free agent, I can’t remember his name Freddy Garcia maybe? Santana? Something like that. He was signed in May or something, came up and had one start, was blasted, and was let go the next day. I think a year or so later he surfaced with a different team and was successful, but for the life of me I can’t remember his name.

That scenario always comes to mind when I think of guys getting one start. I think the leash should usually be a little bit longer.

I think Mike Wright and David Hess, among others, each have gotten more chances than the multiple of the number of chances Weaver gave Mike Cuellar times the number of chances Weaver gave his first wife.

I missed the first inning-pl

I missed the first inning-plus, but I'd say absolutely yes. He benefited from some hard-hit outs and ran a lot of deep counts. But he did miss some bats and got some K's, and he grooved fewer pitches than most of his teammates do day in and day out.

Edwin Jackson? I don’t know if he made any starts though.

Garcia actually made about 10 starts for us.

Freddie Garcia had more than one start.  Could you be thinking of Jair Jurrjens?

Not Jurrjens, because I don’t think he ever returned from his injury. Might be Edwin Jackson.

It was Edwin Jackson. But what if Johan Santana didn’t tear his Achilles rehabbing in 2013?
