What did Bleier do?

Recommended Posts

I mean....besides suck again...

What did he do when he was pulled from the game?  I heard the announcers talking about it, but I did not see what happened.

More frustration boiling over, I guess, but Bleier has completely sucked a lot this year.

Looked ticked when a ball was hit down first base with Davis well off the bag, Bleier threw his hands up in the air. After giving up another double, Hyde came and got him. Bleier kind of jumped off the mound before Hyde got there and Hyde sort of had to stop him to get the ball.

Whether Bleier said something to Flores about the positioning or Flores was ticked that he threw his hands up in the air, who knows? But they started yapping at each other. Players and coaches jumped in the middle between them.

I didn't see what started it originally as I just got back home.

Also, look at Shawn Armstrong jumping in and telling Flores to "eff off," and Cossin's getting Flores away and not yapping at the players.

Looks much more like Flores got in the face of Bleier.

Bleier probably made a comment, and Flores decided to go after him. Coaches should know better. If Flores had a problem with Bleier take it up with him after the game. Don’t do it in full view of everyone watching.

Nice job by Jim Hunter not asking Hyde about it postgame. I just don’t get it.

I understand the local broadcasters are not going to go out of their way to be negative. I mean it is common sense. That said how can you interview the manager and talk about every pitcher used other than Bleier and what happened?

Maybe he felt it required an immediate response.

Hell of a thread.

I am glad you think so.  I thought it sounded like more than “the usual”, but it was tough to tell from the broadcast...

He doesn’t strike anyone out. Hard to be effective in modern baseball.

I wonder if he thinks his stuff needs to be defended differently than others on the staff? Who knows.

Flores isn’t just throwing stuff against the wall.

I agree with this.  There is a time and place.  Obv Bleier just coming out of a tough outing on the dugout steps is not the time nor place imo.

    • Here’s a comparison of the 2019 and 2020 bullpens.   Due to the shortened 2020 season, I’m focusing on rate stats: 2019: 5.79 ERA, 1.514 WHIP, 8.6 K/9, 2.12 K/BB, 4.04 IP/game, 50% save rate, 38% inherited runners scored,  2020: 3.90 ERA, 1.272 WHIP, 8.8 K/9, 2.27 K/BB,  4.19 IP/game, 61% save rate, 32% inherited runners scored Overall, a very solid improvement in every area.  We had a solidly average bullpen in 2020.     As an aside, in the course of looking at these stats I noticed that the Kansas City Royals had a 95% save rate last year (19/20) despite the fact that their bullpen ERA was a decent but not great 3.84.     That’s rather astounding, and unlikely to be repeated.
    • I agree that most of these guys are completely replaceable...but it would likely be trading better players than these to get players that can probably be picked up for nothing.   Not sure what or who you think the Os should trade.
    • I cannot imagine how Cot’s projects Sanchez at $4 mm.   We’re talking about a guy who was non-tendered in 2019, was signed to a minor league deal by the Giants and later released, then was signed to a minor league contract by the White Sox and released again.    If the O’s offer him any kind of major league deal he should jump at it.
    • Who said anything about teams taking on these players?
    • You really think there are teams out there that want to take on these guys and go to arbitration with them?
    • I have zero desire to see Mullins get any amount of significant playing time and I have serious doubts the Os do either.  He has a spot on the team as your 4th/5th OFer type guy but he shouldn’t be anything more than that. Stewart I can see but, the team is telling us they will platoon him at best and his injury history isn’t exactly on his side. Not to mention, he does have an option remaining, so he could be in AAA.    Stewart brings a better walk rate but not sure what he can provide in the field (which isn’t much at all) makes up for anything else.  Not like Nunez is way older or super expensive. If Nunez was making 5+ million, it would be different.  But we are talking 2ish million here.  It’s nothing and his roster spot blocks nothing to begin the year. Again, this is 100% money driven...not roster management driven.
