Austin Hays called up

Apparently he is on the bench, as he is pinch hitting now.

From the bench?  He is going to be susceptible to pitches on the outside corner.  😛

The umpire isn't calling the outside corner, so he should be fine.

I didn't see him out there during batting practice though, but he might have already been in the clubhouse.

Thanks.

I'm more confused now though.  I thought he got the call up because he couldn't play in AFL.  This tweet says otherwise.

All he has to do is show he can hit at this level. Hays can obviously handle center.

And stay healthy. Would be awesome if 2/3 of next year’s outfield is Hays and Santander. And Mancini gets shifted to 1B/DH.

Is it too early to give up on Stewart as a competent outfielder?

I'd say so.  He's always been in danger of being passed tho.

I’d give Stewart next spring training to straighten himself out as a defender. I’m thinking the problem might be mental right now as opposed to being the next Delmon Young in the outfield.

Hard to imagine things not starting out that way. No reason to think Hays wouldn't do well in ST considering the nature of it all and all the minor leaguers that will be pitching to him. I mean, we really don't have anyone to compete with him for CF and I don't consider Wilkerson an option. It is a little concerning that Hays has struggled against major league pitching thus far in his career, so his performance this month should supply some much needed information. Still much too early to say anything for sure, though. Certainly, staying healthy is a must and another concern. He still has a lot to prove, but the time has certainly come for him to do so especially next season.

I wonder if Hays is ready for major league pitching.

The number of games remaining is so small, his results won’t tell us much one way or the other.

Its not what it tells us.  Its what it tells Elias, Sig and Hyde.  I bet they analysize the heck out of how he does in September.

How much did DSJR's April tell us?
