Great to see you've found your new whipping boy, every season it's somebody new you need to tear down at every single turn the second they don't succeed.

Seriously, the second... he has been terrible all year

I agree Givens has had a terrible year, but would prefer not to see the thread diverted into that topic.  Let’s just have a good discussion of who deserves the MVO.

Mike Elias?

It's a tough call as a strong case can be made for all 3. If you factor in salary, Means and Mancini are at 1/9th of Villar. Means also batted 1.000 this season...

I think I'd go with Means.  I realize that the O's record in games that he started isn't all that great, but I think his value goes beyond that.  He was at least a guy that you could generally depend on to give you a good start save for a brief mid-season slump, and in a season where we're routinely starting waiver-wire pickups I don't think you can understate that.

My one “complaint” against Means is that he only averages 5.4 innings per start.    That’s not awful by any stretch, and is actually “good” by 2019 Orioles standards, but for me it’s hard to give the MVO to a starting pitcher who won’t pitch enough innings to qualify for the ERA title.

I don't give much weight to a standard set in a completely different era with different expectations.  In 2019 using 162 innings as a disqualifier is at least a little like saying you couldn't give the MVP to a guy who didn't even hit .300, or who struck out 100 times.

I think it clearly Mancini. Especially with the way the AS game went for him and it’s also a comeback year for him. I’d be very surprised if it were anyone else. Though Means and Villar would be solid choices if chosen.

My vote goes to all of the fans who actually watched a lot of the O's games on the tube.  Even if the games were used as 'background noise' while you were doing something a lot more pleasurable.  2 thumbs up.

Was Mancini bad enough last year to be in the running for national comeback player of the year?

I doubt it, but don’t know who the logical candidates are.

Honestly outside of the truly elite not many SPs go 6+ innings anymore so I'm not sure I'd hold that against him. The telling stat for me is that his era is a 1.5 is better than our next best SP (Bundy). He's literally been a lone diamond in a dumpster fire.

I think  Zach Davies can make a strong case for it, based on his turn around success.
