No way Tayler Scott gets protected.

He may be sacrificially offered to the baseball gods.

They may also decline.

Tayler will need him some protection in certain Baltimore neighborhoods

The 2014 Orioles had a legit chance of being a World Series team and to me that is enough to justify the trade. Miller turned the Orioles bullpen from very good to elite.

What was not ok was the Gerardo Parra for Zach Davies trade in 2015.

I was for the trade then and now.  Andrew Miller was just a beast. He made me happy just watching him making hitters look stupid.

God almighty, does this team not have one single pitcher who can pitch in the ninth inning without being a total geek?

We cd have gone with Tanner for two, or yesterday Kline for two. Hyde trying everyone out. End of the season try-outs (or pre-ST auditions?).

Same, Miller was like having peak Randy Johnson as a reliever.

What? I show up to what will probably be my last game thread of the year and everybody leaves! Typical. 😎

Why your last?

Him and Cruz.  But hindsight being 20/20 and all that.

In the end, I can get can behind letting those guys go.  But only if you improve the team in other areas.  They let them go and did nothing which was a travesty.  That's not what you do when you were in shouting distance of the World Series.

No particular reason. Pretending to be a baseball player playing softball all weekend and probably won’t watch much more between tomorrow night and the weekend as well.   I do miss baseball when it ends and the OH game threads!

Maybe it was a good thing? Probably a bit of a stretch but would we have Elias  and company doing what they’re doing if we had been more successful.

Boston up 8-5 after 3.   Eduardo Rodriguez has given up 5 runs in 3 innings, throwing 68 pitches.   He's got to go 2 more innings to qualify for the W, which would be his 19th if he could get it.

If he does get #19 tonight, he would be going for #20 vs the Orioles Sunday on the last day of the seaosn.

Rodriguez wound up giving up 7 runs on 113 pitches in 5 innings, but he did get through the 5th and Boston has a 12-7 lead so if they can hold that lead he'll be going for 20 Sunday against the O's.

PA was getting up there and sooner or later the sons were going to take over.  Odds are the sons would have seen some of their father's shortcomings (Refusal to spend in the International market, Painstakingly slow in approving things, stepping in and signing "fan favorites" ie.  Chris Davis contract, etc.) and would have gotten someone good to fix things, maybe not as good as Elais but good (and given them much more autonomy of course).  I'd still take that hypothetical option in going for it in 2015 and not sitting on your rear, even if that meant not getting Elias.  But it can be hard to predict future.  Maybe we do that and we don't win.  Maybe the guy we hire next for rebuilding botches it.  Perhaps that's the silver lining but we'll never know.  Of course we won't care about that if Elias brings us a contender and wins the World Series.  And that's something I think we can all agree on.

The franchises do have one thing in common, other than calling their homes north of the border ........ each of their last respective world championships was claimed in 1993.

Those damned Habs beat my beloved Los Angeles Kings in that year's Stanley Cup Finals, although my guys have since won 2 world titles in 2012 and 2014. It was great to see Marcel Dionne and company at the series-clincher against the Devils in June of 2012.

And Barry Melrose is still crying about it to this day.  He has never said anything nice about the Habs in 25 years.  He just smirks when he has to talk about them.

He can take some comfort in the fact that the Canadiens have not even made it back to the Stanley Cup Finals since then, let alone won a cup.

    • LF Hays made a nice catch for Zimmerman. In Game 1 Mountcastle could not quite get an early count foul pop by Meadows in a PA that I think ended up a 10 pitch walk.  I don’t think OAA reads that foul ball but it did seem like one some LF could get.  Long way but also big hang time.

    • Just got through the DVR, and here's the lead.  My goodness - that mustache.  It goes right to the childhood McGregor Flanagan reptilian brain stem.  It's hard to see almost anything else. At one look, I'd say it's maybe an interesting call between him and Cobb for Game 5 next year, while whatever shenanigans/surgeries with Baumann, Hall, Rodriguez (and to a lesser extent Smith/Lowther) are waited out. I heard the Driveline last offseason report, but that hits me wrong for 4-pitch mix guys.  I think I think the devil's bargain of the Driveline-type proposition is you give feel and get dominance.  I see Savant had him at 30 FB, 10 SL, 10 CH, so will be curious to see if a 4th pitch comes out in Turn 2. Great story, and could certainly be a once through order or up/down guy for peak Rutschman teams but would hazard a guess that his IP count medium to long term is probably negatively correlated with team success.  Akin has splashed the pool to grow the group to 6 of "SP's I hope make 150+ starts/OpenerFollows for the 2021 Orioles", but I think Lopez, Smith and Lowther are more my 7/8/9 guys, never mind the Fulmers and Stewarts of the waiver wire. I do hope Zimmermann and all those others have somewhere to continue hot (warm, at least) games in October, whether in Bowie, or at some Super Arizona Fall League to be named later.  October/November Super Arizona Fall League could be like the Futures Game every day if anything could be concocted after the World Series.  Darn tootin I want to see Grayson Rodriguez trying to get Wander Franco out then.
    • Not an impressive debut. Zimmermann's command was bad. I hope he settles down for his next appearance. Smith is a good prospect, but he only pitched 30 innings in AA last year and that was the highest he's gotten in the minors. Zimmermann, Akin, and Kremer all logged at least 150 innings between AA and AAA before this year.  Plus, 40 man roster considerations are always a factor. Zimmermann and Kremer both needed to be added this winter anyway to avoid getting picked in the Rule 5 draft. Smith does not till next winter.
    • Zimmerman's stuff, I was impressed enough. Command, quite another conversation. If he can command that stuff, I think he's okay. Good stuff, no command, see, Cabrera, D.
    • I thought Wojo looked like a hard rocker, lead singer of something like "Ancient Leviticus Ceremonies" or such. Also, today was my first look at Zimmerman, and I was thinking "why is an actor from a 70's cop show throwing out the first pitch?"
