Trade Bait 2020

Recommended Posts

Is there any reason for the Yankees to believe Mancini is much of an upgrade over Voit?

Rays are always dumpster diving when it comes to finding 1B options. Sure, they would take Mancini off the O's hands. Only if they are not giving up much value.

Rangers or Blue Jays seem like the best fit ATM. Problem is neither of them are "all in". Blue Jays took a flier on Shaw.

Mancini could represent an upgrade for teams. It's marginalize by lower opportunity cost. Doesn't help that he has not put together back to back solid seasons. Might have better luck later in the year when injuries start happening.

So the Liberatore trade,  any inferences that we can make from that trade regarding Mancini’s trade value and the value of that 2020 comp pick swap?  Liberatore has been pretty much ranked dead even/slightly above GrayRod since they were drafted.

Would you trade MancinI/comp A for Liberatore/comp B?

Also, the Rays now have to create two spots on their 40 man to add the two players they acquired. That could be a nice spot for a little trade for a team.

I think St. Louis made a helluva trade.   I probably would not trade Mancini for Liberatore.  A 135 OPS+ bat controlled through 2022 is worth a lot.

Yankees - I don't think they'd view Mancini as an upgrade over Voit.

Blue Jays - They might be an option at the trade deadline, if Shaw turns out to be a bust and they're still in contention.

Rangers - They might be a fit, but they've been pretty active on the trade front this off season. My guess is they've already played their hand.

Agreed. That trade was a real head scratcher to me since the Rays typically don't make bad trades. I know they really needed an upgrade at DH/1B, but it seemed like a real overpay for a 30+ glorified DH. When I first heard the trade rumors I assumed Bader or O'Neil were in the mix. I guess we'll have to see how it plays out. Also, Libertore and some secondary pieces would have definitely been enough for me to part with Mancini. Liberatore is a REALLY good pitching prospect.

You also have to consider that the Rays have a 40 man roster crunch constantly because of there deep system.  So maybe they sold a little low on Liberatore and the Catching prospect, but they got back two players that can help them win now, they moved up 30 spots in the draft, and they gained some future 40 man flexibility by trading away two prospects.

I would've done Mancini for Liberatore straight up.  My reasoning being that Mancini's value in 2020-2022 isn't worth what Liberatore would offer the club in 2022-2029.  Mancini is a 135 OPS+ bat on 2-3 100 loss seasons through 2022.  Liberatore would be a potential mid rotation SP for 6+ years when our next competitive run would likely be.

I think it is cartwheels and backflips if Mancini could have gotten Liberatore.  I suppose Grayson Rodriguez separated himself some from Liberatore in 2019, but they both have glowing scouting reports, similar draft status and were good in the Midwest League the year after they were in high school.  I like Mancini, but I'd pretty happily do that.   I now feel about Randy Arozarena something similar to Corey Kluber, like an MLB club has told me something slightly unexpected about a player.

Maybe the Rays know something we don't know.

I think the draft pick swap is underrated as well, especially the increased bonus pool.

The Rays look like they are going to platoon the heck outta next year.  This is a pretty good time for the O's to be down.  TB is a playoff team.  The Yankees had the highest scoring offense in baseball.  Bos is always hanging around.  Tor has good young position players and they picked up some players.  The AL East is just so tough.

I read this as “I don’t think they’d view Mancini as an upgrade over Vomit.” at first,

I’m ready for the weekend.

Good points.  In fact, you've changed my mind.  I'd make that trade.

Yes, he was very good...in the Pacific League.

Exactly.  He looks like a solid young OFer that can and probably will be easily replaced.

    • You are welcome. You call it condescension, I call it factual truth.
    • I can't imagine the Angelos' are in much of a giving mood after losing the MASN court battle with MLB.  Unfortunately the little guys will pay the price.
    • Plus he gets a chance to stick it to the Steelers at least twice a year.
    • We’re 2-4 in mine. Do you know how we can get Mancini back in the sim? Will he be back at some point this season or can we make it happen? I couldn’t find him in the game but I’m still learning it and may have missed an injured list or something.
    • More testing of the treatments will be a benefit in the long run - whether it be the combination of Chloroquine and Z-pack or something else.  Get the treatment out there and it will reduce quarantine times and make the virus manageable.  Then work on the vaccine that could actually come in the fall.  It is being fast-tracked more so than in the past. https://katu.com/news/coronavirus/fast-track-coronavirus-vaccination-request-to-go-to-fda-for-approval
    • This is a tough one. Ever since we drafted Hollywood I've thought AB signing with us could be a possibility. AB has not been the same since he took the vicious hit in the Bengals game.  Why ? Concussion? I can't remember what the diagnosis was after that game.  It almost seems like a storybook ending for AB if he goes to the castle and meets with the Ravens top brass and I mean top brass from Bisciotti to Cass to Harbaugh to DeCosta to Ozzie and Lamar. Bisciotti has said he would like to copy or be like the Steelers and certainly would be if they signed AB.  Would other vets like Thomas and Campbell be able to keep him straight?  In some ways I can see us being the perfect fit for him. We have a great clubhouse and somehow Harbaugh is able to click with players.  He praises them and makes them feel important. AB definitely needs stroking and praise due to his huge ego. Big Ben and Tomlin didn't stroke him and didn't click. Gruden and him didn't click but that was no surprise and the Pats clubhouse was probably like walking on eggshells with Bill B in charge. If the top guys talk to him and are comfortable I am comfortable.  I can see in a way Lamar and him clicking with Hollywood around. He knows what it's like playing at M & T and probably is smart enough to know he could make our solid offense even better. Super Bowl ?
