Post the sound bite.

Roll Tide is correct.    It was quoted by Melewski:

Baltimore had a number of names in mind. Those are the players they had targeted. As we kind of worked through the deal, that is how it evolved.

“If their approach was quantity, we were open to that. If their approach would have been one player and aiming somewhere different, we would have entertained that too. We kind of worked through the deal and this was ultimately where it went. We didn’t have a target list of guys we wanted to utilize in this trade. Those guys are talented. Quite frankly, you give up players you just recently drafted, that can go in a number of directions. Every deal hurts. This one is no different.”

I give the guy a certain amount of credit. He has strong opinions. Had passion about this baseball stuff and tried to build his own thing when it became clear this place wasn't for him.

Now he's into politics, so I pity him. (kidding, sort of) I'm glad he has a thing.

I just read Last month and half of his Twitter after you posted this.  Seems pretty reasonable points.  He supports a candidate and posts about him.  It isn’t the typical political rants you read from people that gets half the  the readers of it angry.  I never had an issue with his posts on here.

@weams I don't need to post here! I do so because I like it and have found the information, friends, and conversation worth it. I'm not trying tp fight with anyone. But I refuse to eat a lot of crap from a guy that is clearly trolling!   And why is he doing so? Not because I did something to him. For the simple reason that he doesn't share my point of view and or cant convince me to change my mind.

The poster replies to my every post with an insult or complaint about repeating the same information. Then publicly, uses the time out crack as he lobbies for my suspension. In spite of the fact that I had broken no rules, just that he adamantly disagrees with my position. Then follows a post asking for a link from something that was played on the radio (that Frobby provided as back up later). When I inform him of such, he questions my integrity with the disappearing quote crack. I can't see how anyone could possibly blame me for my reaction. My mention of a time out was just mocking his comment to you from a day earlier.

I do my very best to post honestly and don't pull crap out of the sky. I can usually find a reference for the claim I've made such as the Sun articles that I posted the other day.

You and I have been at odds on most points since Monday.I remind myself that we don't always have to agree because it indeed a message board. It's not personal and I certainly hope that you don't take it that way.

No one is getting anyone suspended. I want things to cool down.

I liked JTrea but a certain group of posters clashed pretty regularly with him. I don't recall whether he just left or was banned. I know he posts occasionally over on BSL.

Wow, Dylan Bundy was the straw that broke the camel's back for you?

Really! This isn’t like a contract for anyone named Davis to play 1B...

I am kind of feeling that way after Villar trade. Truthfully, I don't care about Bundy trade either way.  They can trade Mancini, Givens, Mountcastle and Hays and it won't make any difference to me.  It is kind of like if your girlfriend left you after cheating on you. Now she is with a second guy.  She is gone now what difference does it make who she is sleeping with.  I don't care anymore what the Orioles do.  If they decided to move to Nashville tomorrow it would make zero difference to me.  If they just decided to close up shop fine with me.

My god that’s melodramatic. If you really feel that way, why even waste the energy typing that post? Go find something else that you are passionate about. Plant a garden. Learn to snowboard; the winter is almost here.

I’d sure as hell care if they closed up shop, because I love this team. I still give a damn, and I always will. But apparently you’re done with things, so it may be best if you moved on. Good lord...

Atomic I totally get your disappointment. I know that losing your favorite current player can be disappointing. For me I had came to terms that ELias was going to trade him an others when he took over. I think you can recall my position of giving him a 2-3 years extension if we couldn't get anything good in return. After his trade I still think that is the better move. Quite frankly, I think they could've extended him for a fraction of the 10.4 per year arb number.

I don't think your are gone! As I mentioned nobody that has spent the time to post 11,000+ posts about this team is going anywhere. Hang in there as I think there is hope we can turn the corner soon.  Also just ignore the comments like the one from @lovetoaster.

This is the kind of post that tips off conflict. Its a discussion board and @weams ant the other mods have asked that we tone things down.

The guy has 12.000 posts so it should be obvious that he's passionate about the Orioles and just didn't like the move.

    • The part of this no one (at least that I've seen) talks about is what is the impact of sign stealing?  Of course we have no real data whatsoever.  No double-blind studies of how Jose Altuve would hit with and without knowing what's coming.  We have no idea how often he got the signs.  We have some apples-to-pears data from home/road games, but home/road splits are going to be different anyway.  And the data is mixed; Altuve had a big home split last year, but an equally big away split in 2018. It's like PEDs.  No really good data on anything, so the assumption is that it takes an average dude and turns him into an MVP.  But the reality is almost certainly much messier, much less clear cut.  Some people did it all the time, some rarely, some never.  The benefits were almost certainly all over the place from negative impacts from side effects to massive performance gains.  But we're just guessing.  Same thing with sign stealing.  Some will assume that this is worth 25 wins to the Astros, but we have no idea if it's even a significant thing.  For all we know it's like corking your bat; the benefits of that over legal bats are usually zero or worse.  Sign stealing has been so prevalent over the years we've all heard the stories of batters who didn't want to know.  It messes with their approach and their heads if they're tipped off to what's probably coming. In the end we can probably make the assumption that stealing signs helps the average batter somewhat.  But we have no idea of the actual impact.
    • I think “otherworldly” is a huge overstatement of what he’d need to be offensively to compensate for his defense.      Last year he was worth 0.1 rWAR, -0.2 fWAR, so basically replacement level.   He was 48th of 68 catchers who had at least 100 plate appearances in fWAR, so that places him solidly in the middle of second string catchers in overall value.    With a decent improvement in his offense, he’d be above average overall for a backup catcher.     Somewhere between .750-.775 OPS would take him off the cusp, IMO.   I don’t consider that “otherworldly.” By the way, I’m using WAR because it’s available, but I don’t completely trust it for catchers.
    • Yes, but we have out performed them in the offseason getting rid of Villar and Bundy.
    • This one slipped by me until Roch mentioned it today in his blog.   He was signed on Jan 10th. This looks like a Wojo signing to me.    Long time minor league starter,  who has had a cup of coffee in the majors. From the Dominican. Between AAA and the winter league his stats this past season are: 19-3,    2.01 ERA,  29 S,   188.1 IP,  171 H,   162 SO,  1.019 WHIP He played with Houston at AAA in 2016 going 12-1, 3.12 ERA in the PCL.   So Elias knows  him well. Valdez doesn't look like someone that is ticketed for the AAA rotation that already has 6 starters in it.   If he shows something in ST he could be in the O's rotation or long relief.  If he doesn't show enough in ST he is probably gone. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=valdez001ces
