And Roberts was the third I mentioned.

You could name 5 more and it still wouldn't move the needle left of pathetic

This reminded me of an "Edna Ferber?" poem I had to memorize in Elementary school:

"Roll roll you creaking high wheeled wagons

Roll across these furrows where my strength was shed

This field of corn-knees is a written scroll to show that we have toiled for our daily bread"

These players mentioned by @wildcard and referred to by others must definitely all shed some sweat and "burn the midnight oil" going over the analytics to reach the heights we seek.  I am loving all of the give and take here by all of you "savants" above.  This hot stove brings me much delight!  Carry on!

The poem your quote is really nice, and I will look it up, but I got the imagery came from the Bible. Lots of chaff and wheat there, Ha ha

I’m not disagreeing with you.    But you asked if you missed anybody, so I mentioned three who came readily to mind.

Wildcard gets an unbelievable amount of crap on this website for writing fun, speculative, roster-focused posts. I'll never understand it. It's just one dude's opinion, and it's fun to tinker around thinking about the potential pieces of a future good Orioles team. Give or take whatever year they may or may not arrive.

Here here!  :new_beer:Write on bruh!  Looking forward to matching up with the Jays' young guns in the next few years to see what we have.  Whether our guys ever become dudes or  ever make it to the big show, just hanging on for the ride could be exciting - or not (hehehe).

I was referring to the original post. Can't really expect any of the responses to it to be particularly new or insightful.

Wildcard drives a lot of discussion here. It's a perfectly fine OP.

Good thing he's got you looking out for him. Too bad you didn't read a little further along.

U mad.

Guy's just being honest about his opinion. I don't think he cares what most teams do. It's not like he doesn't own up when he's wrong, I've seen him do that plenty. You? Ehh not so much. Mostly deflection.

I don't get mad over this stuff.

That was for effect.

But it is ridiculous to even suggest gaming the service times of prospects of their caliber.  It just isn't something that happens.  Wildcard has managed to get himself enthused with the idea of additional service time, even when it's pointless or even potentially detrimental.

As for me owning up when I'm wrong, sure I do.  When I'm wrong.

Some of those projections for when players are called up seem really, really conservative. Would be really surprised if Yusniel Diaz for example gets called up one month into the 2021 season, and if he does, it's probably because he flopped.

To a large extent the dates are arranged to gain an additional year of service time.

I’m still looking at this topic, per the thread I started discussing how common it is to do service time manipulation.   It’s not an easy thing to identify.

    • Probably more volatility here than most guys on the list.    The comments from Blood made him sound real good defensively but maybe needing some adjustments offensively.    “Servideo is a really, really nice defender and has got bat-to-ball skills and we’re going to keep working there.“ https://www.masnsports.com/school-of-roch/2020/10/draft-selections-impressing-in-fall-instructional-camp.html
    • We’d probably know a lot more right now if they’d actually played a season this year.    I’m hoping Tony can ferret out some honest information about what the guys who made it to Fall Instructs are showing.
    • While having success at higher levels or the minor leagues or even in a taste of the big league is part of the evaluation process and lessens the risk profile of players, it is not the only criteria for placement on the list above another prospect. If you concerned over him being behind Kevin Smith, I'll tell you, I could have easily built a case for either to be above the other. They are very similar prospects as their scouting grades would show you. Smith gets the slight nod for being at more advance stage when he was 22 than Zimmermann was and for the the better slider command that gives him a better chance at his floor.
    • That’s not the way these guys get graded.   Yes you get some credit for how high you’ve gotten in the system, but ultimately the grades are about (1) your expected outcome, and (2) your ceiling.   Zimmermann has made it to the majors, which is great, but his most likely role is a swing man.   Other guys have more potential, if less certainty of reaching the majors.     That said, almost every guy on the list from no. 12 through no. 26 has been graded 45 FV/50 ceiling, so we are really splitting hairs here.   The only exceptions are Baumler and Mayo (both graded 50/60) who haven’t played beyond high school yet so there’s a lot of uncertainty there, and Hernaiz (45/55) who hasn’t played above the GCL.   Those are guys who could move up or down the list pretty significantly next year.
    • A million for Tommy Milone? He’ll be lucky to get a minor league contract from someone.
    • o   You better take a diamond ring ...... you better pawn it, babe.   o
    • The write up makes me think that he is not a starter that Hyde would want to rely on every 5th day.  Maybe more of a swingman.  So that makes it more likely the O's sign a Milone type to begin the season or maybe Milone himself if they can get him for a million for one year.
