Pitching Rotation Ranking Query

I don't know why you would think that Armstrong would be considered for the rotation.   Armstrong has been in 108 MLB games.  All in relief.  He has been in 302 minor league games.  Only one as a starter.

I expect 2 spots to be filled with tandem long guys going 3-4, hence Armstrong, Hess, Rucker, Stewart, and Bailey.

Hert was just going for a comment from Weems haha.

I’m guessing a rotation of Means, Cobb, Wojo, Bailey, and Stewart. I suspect Akin comes up to replace someone. Then Hess.   Rucker also gets a try. Cesar Valdez seems like a guy who gets a shot.

Considering he’s been appalling, why does Hess get a shot? Maybe, MAYBE, he makes it as a reliever, but how can he be considered for the rotation?

Well he

-spent off-season working with guys that helped Means (make a difference...tbd)

-has starter experience and can at go a few innings

-We have 2.5 spots spots depending on how you see Cobb, so certainly availability for a few guys to step in/up

It's clearly not a lock, but I would imagine they will try him in the rotation at least until he proves he can't.  Time will tell, but we're not rolling in SP, and I think he is among the guys that gets a chance.

Why do you think Chris Davis gets a shot?  We are not trying to win - we are aiming for a top 3 draft pick in 2021.

Give Hess 5-10 starts, if he pitches well and appears to have absorbed some lessons from development this offseason, then great.  If he goes 3-7, we have lost games, given Hess a chance and we move on to the next guy.

OD,

SP(5):Means, Cobb, Wojo, Valdez, Stewart

BP(8):Givens, Harvey, Bleier, Castro, Armstrong, Scott, Bailey, Rucker

Guys that didn’t make OD but will be in AAA: Akin, Fry, Hess, Tate, Sulser

Because there are like, maybe 7 players on the forty man roster that can start a game. He’s one of them

I'm usually optimistic going into ST, but this thread seriously leads me in the opposite direction. Why would anyone be optimistic about Cobb, 5-17 as an Oriole? His salary and performance make UJ seem like a bargain. I wish him well, but it seems like a longshot to expect anything exceptional or even trade bait. On paper the starting pitching staff seems close to the most questionable staff ever. Seems like a lot of 6+ runs/game against....55 wins may be a stretch even with better D. I realize Cavalry 2 is near, but this year looks like a #1 draft pick year.

I think there’s one more addition coming before the season starts. I’ll use Cashner as an example/placeholder but don’t hold me to it. I expect something along the lines of Cobb, Means, Wojo, Cashner, and whoever does the best in ST. I highly doubt it is a rule 5 pick so I’d say it’s between Hess, Stewart, Akin, Valdez....something like that. I also think it’s highly likely that at least one of the first four I mentioned will get injured along the way...probably Cobb. So that opens the door a little more for the others and makes a potential SP signing even more important.

Expecting Akin and Kremer up at some point this season.

Yes. And one more starter will be signed.

I’ll let you know what it looks like in 22 days!

Davis is a unique situation. He can’t be used as a comparison for anything.

That made me laugh. I don’t disagree about the number but I do disagree about Hess being one of them.
