Markakis on Astros: "Every Single Guy Needs a Beating"

You realize, I assume, that several other teams before the Astros used technological means to steal and transmit signs.    Like, for example, the 1951 Giants.  https://sabr.org/bioproj/topic/1951-giants-cheating-scandal-effects

Just an aside... I'm impressed by the author's knowledge of history.

Quote

Henry Schenz, a utility infielder, came to the Giants from the Pirates on June 30, 1951. Before his days in the Smoky City, Schenz had been with the Chicago Cubs...

Pittsburgh from the 40's into the 50's...

Just starting now on MASN.... an "Orioles Classic" vs the 2017 Astros.  Zach Britton gets the consecutive saves record.

Like Corn said... "mob mentality."

What I'm anxious to see is how much the power numbers drop for the Astro players this season.

I bet it will be more than you think;

 Altuve 2012 7 HRs, 2013 5 HRs, 2014 7 HRs, 2015 15 HRs, 2016 24 GRs, 2017 24 HRs, 2018 13 HRs and 2019 31 HRs

Springer 2015 16 HRs, 2016 29 HRs, 2017 34 HRs, 2018 22 HRs and 2019 39 HRs

Bregman 2016 8 HRs, 2017 19 HRs, 2018 31 HRs and 2019 41 HRs

Yurriel     2017 18 HRs, 2018 13 HRs and 2019 31 HRs

All of these players benefitted from the cheating and why are they only limiting it to 2017? I think they've been cheating for 4 years.

I'll go on record right now that none of the above players will hit over 20 HRS.

Think the Astros knew that sinkers were coming?

So?

You said brawl, it was a brawl.

Killed an otherwise very promising career.

Possibly cost the kid millions.

It wasn’t a brawl.  He went to someone’s house tried to punch him and missed and fell down. And it wasn’t baseball related.

That’s a very extreme prediction.

Springer: 73 career homers at home, 87 on the road.

Bregman: 44/55

Gurriel 38/27

Altuve: 72/56

I’d certainly bet on Springer and Bregman hitting 20+ homers.   Not necessarily the other two, especially if MLB has dialed back the baseballs.

How many players in the history of the MLB have had career injuries from brawls.

More than enough, including a few guys who had their careers ended by brawls: https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/basebrawl-notable-injuries-baseball-fights-article-1.1315512

Why are brawls something that any baseball fan should be advocating for?

My feeling is, whatever, they cheated better and got caught a few years later. If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying. Don’t like it, throw a fastball to the ribs and move on.
since everyone asked my opinion.

Looking at the two guys who never played again it looks like they were at the end of their career and having a bad season.

Jason Larie was 36 and had a .596 OPS. Felix Moran was 34 and had zero WAR on the season.  Two guys in what 150 years who most likely weren’t going to return anyway.
