Markakis on Astros: "Every Single Guy Needs a Beating"

No that is not what I am saying at all.  I am saying that their injuries are probably not what caused them to never return.  Look I don’t care about brawls.  I have seen hundreds of hockey games. Tons at the minor league level.  I don’t think I ever saw an AHL game without multiple fights.  The player got five minute penalties and then came back on the ice. Not the end of the world about fights or brawls.  I know baseball players aren’t as tough as hockey players but  a few brawls isn’t a big deal,

Wait.   You KNOW that baseball players are not as tough as hockey players?   Your scientific basis for this is the amount of remaining teeth per player or what?  Absolutely ridiculous.

You must be joking.  Baseball players put googles on to celebrate playoff victories as they think their eyes might tear up if they get champagne in them.  Hockey players play through broken bones.  Baseball players go on the disabled list with blisters.

Broken bones?  Lou Gehrig wants to have a talk with you.

I’m pretty sure I saw Barry Bonds in hockey gear when he came up to bat. That and a whole cocktail of designer PEDs. With all the fixings. At the end of the day he was a big dude, people didn’t want him charging the mound. But...

Altuve is 5’3’”. Every pitcher in the MLB can “take” him. He should be worried. Correa is worried for him.

The sad thing is the first pitcher to plunk one of them will get suspended more games for a beaning, than they got for cheating. Manfred messed up and should’ve give every player on that team a 25 games suspension and let the Astros players serve it on a rolling bases.

I don’t know why no one has suggested that the Astros have to play with clown face make up for every game. I think that’s a pretty fair punishment.

Insane Cheater Posse. Make a fortune in marketing. Chicken Huntin will be their motto. Houston Juggalos.

Image result for insane clown posse

Altuve and Bregman.

I have a couple of thoughts:

 - I wonder the extent that Astros players were protected from punishment by the players' union.  If the union protected the Astros players, then IMO Nick should be taking up his issue with the union that protected one team's players at the expense of the rest of MLB.

 - I think the Commissioner did a very poor job with Astros investigation and should have also looked into the cheating or fair play of the remaining teams.  Other teams should have been severely punished as well if they cheated also.

 - This is a separate issue, but if Nick is going to complain about the Astros cheating impacting lives, I am surprised that there was not a bigger uproar when foreign prospects who were lying about their age were taking bonus $ and prospect status away from other prospects.

Trembley, manager of the South Atlantic League’s Charleston Rainbows in 1991-92 and of the Baltimore Orioles (2007-10), was known throughout his 35-year career in professional baseball as a stickler for fundamentals. He did things “the right way.”

Man I hate phrases like that.  So putting Tejada into the lineup with a broken wrist just to extend his streak was doing things the right way?

Because I don't think firing him hurts ownership at all.  I think their is a decent shot this blows over if they blame Manfred for mishandling it.  They could bring in a "law and order" type to be their agent of reform and then not change anything.

And while trying to restore order and respect in the game the "law and order" type WOULDN'T be focused on changing the very nature of the game with 3-batter rules and pitch clocks and all the ridiculous ideas Manfred has.

Mob mentality right or wrong, anything that gets Manfred OUT of the game is just fine with me! The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I'm not a fan of Manfred at all but I do believe that his hands are tied by the MLBPA regarding doling out player suspensions as this circumstance is probably not covered in the CBA.  At this point the MLBPA should try to police their players (I know, it won't happen).  I fail to believe that the booing alone will impact the Cheaters.  And yes I can see suspensions coming for each hit Cheater, intentional or not.  Randy Johnson made one helluva career out of being dangerously wild.  You don't have to hit a batter to send a message.

The Commissioner still has broad authority to act in the best interest of the game.  His hands were tied by himself when he chose to render that authority impotent in pursuit of the "truth".  What contemptible rubbish.  Even knowing that he would lose the grievance process he had the obligation to at least pretend that he had a spine.  "Punishments" where no guilty players lose money, playing time or jewelry and no guilty team loses their trophy falls ludicrously short of adequate.

I strongly suspect (actually I strongly believe without the benefit of evidence) that Manfred and Tony Clark brokered this approach with the understanding that sign stealing and all its variants would be addressed in the new CBA and no doubt it will be - probably rigorously.  That's all well and good but the players who were victims of the Astros' cheating and their fans get left holding the bag - in this case chock full of fully justified resentment.

Canseco weighed on the scandal today.  Said that knowing what pitches were coming was a bigger advantage than being on steroids.
