Yanda Retires

Recommended Posts

And rather than spend the OP talking about the future implications for the Ravens I will just say this.

Thank you for 13 awesome years.  Yanda was clearly one of the best o-lineman in the game and a great and irreplaceable leader for this team.  We will see him in the Hall of Fame.

Yes, a great 13 years and lock for the HoF. Supposedly a good dude, as well.

The Ravens will replace Yanda via FA, a released vet, or the Draft, with Michigan C/G Cesar Ruiz a potential target in R1. There are some solid guards available in the following rounds, as well, if we look to go that route.

I suspect the Ravens will look to the draft, but time will tell... it always does.

Still is going to hurt our offense a decent amount next year either way.

I would be surprised if they didn’t go with Powers and sign a veteran for low backup money. There is no a 1st round quality G available this year in round 1IMO.

Powers was underwhelming at best, when he played, and I don't see him having a future with us, outside of a marked improvement this off-season.  We have two outstanding OT's in Stanley and Brown, and I'd say Bozeman earned the LG spot.  We may be okay at center with Skura/Mekari, but replacing Yanda should not be patchwork, especially as a running team.  Besides, protecting Lamar with a solid front has to be priority one.  We can't go cheap, unless we get 'cheap' via the draft. Who knows though, maybe the Ravens can add a solid option via trade?  Anything seems possible and it'll be interesting to see how this gets resolved.

I believe he was the highest rated OL in the 16th game. I’m certain I read that on the a Ravens site.

That's good to know and perhaps that bodes well for his future. I'd be very happy to see him prove me wrong and grab the RG spot and play well moving forward.

Mekari played well.  I think you could see a Stanley, Bozeman, Mekari, Skura, Brown line.

I also don't think the Ravens will mess around with this.  They know where their bread is buttered and that's being able to run the ball.  I think Baltimore is a top choice for any free agent lineman.  I could see them going and getting a Thuney or Glasgow.

They now have another 7 million available

Skura might never be productive again. His knee injury was really bad.

Fair point.  Like I said, I feel like they will address this in free agency.  Too big a hole.
