XBox Games Showcase

Halo: Infinite

Starts off w/ a look at what is clearly labeled (in the menu) as a demo.  No mention of if this is an in-studio testing demo, a potential public demo that will be released at some point or something else.  I'm not going to lie; I was a bit underwhelmed by this showcase.  The graphics definitely looked nice, but it all kinda just seemed ... slow.  It's nothing we haven't seen in previous, older Halo games and gameplay looks very sluggish compared to current day shooters like Call of Duty, Battlefront II or Destiny 2.  I also noticed artifact pop-in at least once (while he's on the elevator).  A bit nit picky, but something worth mentioning considering this is supposed to be on a next gen console that's supposedly "as good or better" than PC gaming.  It was simply labeled as a "Holiday 2020" title, but I would have to assume it's available at release.

State of Decay 3
trailer, no gameplay
no release date

Forza Motorsport
trailer, all footage captured "using the in-game engine"
getting tired of hearing this phrase only to quickly find out it's doctored footage
at this point, hearing it just makes most people question what they're looking at
no release date

made by Rare
trailer, very pretty, but no gameplay footage
art style reminds me of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
no release date

Tell Me Why
you follow a brother and sister.  The brother is newly released from jail.  You're left to assume he murdered his mother in self defense.
They go back to their old house to try and figure out what really happened.
Aug. 27 (this game is also on XB One and Steam)

Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Looks like they're making an updated version for the XB Series X
Nothing huge, like new levels or anything
updated sound quality and visuals; 4k @ 120 MHz
Out "later this year"

The Outer Worlds
DLC: Perils on Gorgon
base game available w/ XB Gamepass, but you still need to buy the DLC
Sept. 9

looks like a video game version of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
game preview (assuming playable) on July 28

new RPG from Obsidian Entertainment
pretty sure the last 3 games shown were all from Obsidian Ent. lol
no gameplay shown, but the character in the trailer is using a sword and using magic w/ the opposite hand, similar to Elder Scrolls
no release date

As Dusk Falls
not going to lie, no idea what this game is lol
story looks like it's told through still art imagines w/ (some) moving backgrounds
kind of reminds me of Max Payne (the art style, not the gameplay)

Psychonauts 2
sequel to Psychonauts on the original XBox and PS2
Double Fine is now owned by MS, so I'm assuming this is now an XB exclusive
features music (at least one song) by Jack Black

Destiny 2
being added to XB Game Pass
sounds like all current content, including the upcoming expansion Beyond Light(?) will be included, but you will still need to buy the various Seasons

trailer, no release date

Warhammer 40K: Dark Tide

Tetris Effect: Connected
featuring single player and online multiplayer
holiday 2020

The Gunk
looks like some kind of platformer

The Medium
the main character exists in two worlds simultaneously
my first impression while watching this was that it was a next gen Silent Hill game (before they revealed the title)

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis
Says that it's F2P ... but that you'll need XBL Gold to play.  They just announced earlier this week that they're ending the XBL Gold program (w/ no mention of what's replacing it).

Crossfire X
same message "F2P ... XBL Gold required"
they really do need to elaborate on that

cinematic trailer
no mention of if this is a remake of the original or a reboot of the franchise

STILL no mention of price, what they're replacing XBL Gold with OR the relationship between the XB Series X, XB One X and the XB One.  From what I've read seen/read, it sounds like they actually plan on discontinuing the XB One X (the more powerful version of the XB One), but plan on keep the XB One S (the regular version).  I'm not sure what the point of that is, especially if they plan on having exclusives be playable on both the XB One and the Series X (MAN, these are really stupid names).

Is the Series X supposed to be a new console?  They keep talking about it like it's a new, next gen console, but it seems like their plans are treating it like it's just a newer, updated iteration of the XB One.  What's the point of all that (supposedly) new, powerful hardware if games (at least exclusives) are going to be playable on XBox One S also?

A couple things I've learned about about Halo and the demo we saw yesterday.

1. The demo we saw wasn't even running on an XB Series X.  It was running on a PC, which makes the artifact pop-in and middling graphics even more bewildering.

2. Halo: Infinite is not the first in a new series of Halo games.  It sounds like this is the only game we're getting.  The next 10 years of Halo content is all slated to be DLC for this game.
