Going for the Sweep (vs. D-RAYS, 8/02)

Recommended Posts

I don't mind Milone's high pitch count.  I'm kind of looking forward to seeing Eshelman go a few innings anyway.   And we have a day off, probably two, so we can stretch the bullpen a bit in this game.

The Orioles' 2nd Baseman made a questionable move on the final force-out right there.

He started running off of the field on a very close play long before the umpire gave the out signal. The runner over-slid the bag ........ if he had just stayed out there a second or 2 longer and looked at what was happening, he could have tagged the runner out, just to make sure.

That's a tiny bit terrifying.

Definitely.  It's not a minimum wage dime a dozen stink job where you go, eh, forget it, I'm not going in today.  This is pretty ominous.

And they are on the road, which to me makes it more disconcerting.

But now that I think about it, if the umpire had ruled him safe and then he tagged the runner out, the run would have counted because it would no longer have been a force-out.

Interesting, but I still think that he needed to stay out there until he saw the umpire's thumb go upward.
