They are who we thought they were!

I predict Davis will opt out within a week. He likes his family too much to risk being around a lot of players at 1B. He is now wearing a mask at 1B and I think it will only take one or two more players that reach first he talks to that test positive for him to opt out. He's made over a 100 million so far and does not need to risk his families health. His demeanor has changed since Boston and there are no smiles currently at bat or in the dugout.

He’s also 1 for 19 on the year. That doesn’t help one’s demeanor much either.

I don’t know, I would like to see him opt out, but I think he sticks it out with his team. Agree though that the body language is not good right now.

If he DOES opt out, what are the chances he ever suits up for us again?

The guy seems to have no shame. He will continue to show up to collect his 23 million dollars while solidifying his position as the worst ML baseball player of all time. Perhaps he is looking to buy a small third world country in retirement

I don’t know, when I look at him walk back to the dugout and take his helmet off after another entirely non-competitive AB I see a case study in shame.

Well, I would guess most of us would continue to show up for a 23 million per year job if the only requirement was showing up.

Then at the very least attempt to sign players with a pulse. Attempting to sign Puig was a good start, at least he's entertaining and has some history of being decent. It's not like signing someone like him is gonna stop us from losing 40-50 games.

I know that the Angelos would like most people to believe that being somewhat active on a good player could sink this teams financials however.

Why? Puig is a head case who has underperformed for the bulk of his ML career. I see no benefit unless of course it’s to put more butts in the seats.

Oh, wait....

EDIT: He’s been at or below average for three of his seven year career.

He'd also be the best player on the team bar none unless you really want to argue Alberto or Iglesias on less than 20 games

To what end? That is to say, “So what?” A head case who sometimes plays well on a team full of nobodies? Yeah, outstanding.

I keep seeing people say we have a "boom or bust" offense. I think that is a very generous description of the offense. I haven't seen them truly go "boom" once this season.

The most runs they've scored in any game is 7.

Baseball is a boom or bust offense now.  The league's hitting .230 and striking out 24% of the time, nobody is building their run scoring on sequential events.  You just hope someone was on base the couple innings someone goes deep.

And the Orioles, with no one on the roster guaranteed to have a 100 OPS+, bust more often than most.

In the words of the immortal Dennis Green...

Green was calling the Bears "pretenders" - they eventually made the Super Bowl that year but got punked in it.

I don't know if any of us would even give the Orioles "pretender" status even if they make the back end of the playoffs.

To me.. a "boom" would mean putting up lots of runs in a hurry. I honestly don't think the O's are capable of doing that... unless we face a pitcher who pulls an Ubaldo and absolutely craps himself on the mound.
