No more argument to play Chris Davis

Does he?

Was he hired to do what he is doing?

If you were as good at your job as Davis is at his would you stay employed?

I'm sorry Mr. Corn - wasn't trying to get into a philosophical debate about the semantics of the word "job."聽馃槈聽My point was that he shows up, does what he's told, just donated a big chunk of change to UMD's Children's Hosptial, etc. It's not like he's out there like TO talking about how Donovan McNabb sucks to the media or running off to Vegas in the middle of the season with Carmen Electra like Dennis Rodman. That's a "circus." He's just a bad baseball player.

You want this guy coaching our up and coming players?聽 I understand that not all teachers of the game were great players.聽 But, we're talking about Chris Davis here, not Sammy Sosa.聽 A guy who has had 3-4 good seasons over the course of his career.聽 I like Chris. But I don't need him coaching future Orioles.

Honestly, I have no problem with Chris or his professionalism

Between you and me, I wouldn't want Sosa encouraging players to use PEDS. Which is the main reason his career was so successful.

I think Adderall and the other ADD/ADHD stuff has prematurely diminished Chris' reaction time.

He certainly could assist Mountcastle and Nunez with their defense at 1B.

So Davis got suspended for using PEDs but you are worried about Sosa encouraging players to use them?

Zero difference IMO.

We also don't know exactly what he was taking and in what doses.聽 All we do know is he failed two tests.

Wrong....see below

Do you have ADHD or ADD?

Quote

Orioles infielder Chris Davis, Major League Baseball's most prodigious home run hitter last season and an outspoken opponent of performing-enhancing drugs, was suspended for 25 games Friday by the league for testing positive for the drug Adderall. It was his second failed test for an amphetamine in his career.

OK, he was taking Adderall but do we know what dose?聽

If we don't know what dose we don't know if he was attempting to self mediate his ADHD, which is still a violation, or something else.

What we do know is that he got caught in violation TWICE.聽

Davis is not a plus fielder.聽 I guess in the nebulous world of first base fielding metrics he might have qualified as plus for a season or two but not at this point in history.

Well he would have made that scoop.聽 Of that I have no doubt.聽 Nunez should never bring his glove to the ballpark.

As for Crush, he's done.聽 I don't know why he couldn't bring his success of Spring Training and Summer Camp into the real games, but he hasn't, and he's actually playing worse than the past two years, if that's even possible.聽 I love the guy, but he's done.聽 Move on.聽聽

(That said, Hyde HAS moved on.聽 That pinch hitting spot was Davis' only appearance in the Nats series, unless I missed something?)

He was taking Adderall and then switched to Vyvanse which is a more time released ADHD medication. Both failed tests had to due with not receiving an exemption for a clinically diagnosed medical condition. Which quite frankly is absurd. The guy clearly has a medical issue, that can be treated with medication but will never go away.

*** Also, you didn't answer the question? Have you been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD? ******

ADHD is a disorder that affects the brain and behaviors. There's no known cure for ADHD, but several options can help your child manage their symptoms. Treatments range from behavioral intervention to prescription medication. In many cases, medication alone is an effective treatment for ADHD.

So he has a condition and needs an exemption ///Period

The fact that he needs to reapply is assnine

No I don't.

He has to apply for an exemption because he's taking a performance enhancing drug.聽 How is it absurd that substances like that must be approved?聽 I think it is telling that he is not currently taking Adderall.聽 If that is the proper medication for his disorder why is he prescribed something else?聽

We don't know how much and how often he was taking the medication.聽 Is it OK with you if he was exceeding the proper dosage?

You know Bill Bergen?聽 The catcher from 100 years ago who once hit .139 in a nearly full season, the guy who had a 21 OPS+ for his 3000 PA career?聽聽 He once had a month where he went 11-for-29 (.379).聽 Occasionally the Gods smile on the humblest among us.

    • I am right in line with those who want to see the Orioles win as many games as they can this year, and even better if those wins come with big contributions from those who are counted on to be,聽or can build a case to be, part if a winning Oriole team a couple of years from now. I don't doubt for a minute that every player who has worn an Orioles uniform in 2021 has tried his best to make the team succeed. I have the same certainty about Hyde and the coaches. The problem I have is with Elias (and, I guess, John Angelos, although I don't know how involved he is in implementing the Orioles' rebuilding strategy, including the extreme stinginess in building this season's聽roster). Elias is the executive v.p. and general manager of the Baltimore Orioles. It's customary -- insulting to the fans, and probably unwise -- for聽general managers to say little about the team or their plans, and to let the manager do the talking. Elias largely follows that model; he rarely speaks, and when he does he discloses very little.聽But it sure seems that he doesn't have any interest in how the team he was hired to lead -- his team -- plays this year. Does he go to Orioles games? Does he watch them on TV? It wouldn't surprise me if he does neither. I suspect that if he worked for me, and the facts were available to me, I would conclude he had badly neglected one part of his job. I don't think Elias gives a damn whether the Orioles win 40 or 50 or 60 games this year, and his actions have given lots of observers reason to believe, or take as a serious possibility, that those moves reflect a goal of having the Orioles win fewer games to get an earlier draft pick. (If that聽were true, and it's almost inconceivable that we'll ever know, I think Elias should be fired and perhaps barred from baseball.) I sure don't think he cares, if he even knows, about how his rebuilding strategy has discouraged fans and led to terrible attendance (fifth worst in MLB if you ignore Toronto, ahead of only the Florida teams, Oakland and Pittsburgh).聽I wish he would make some effort to show that he cares about his team's performance as much as the Orioles' players and remaining fans do.
    • From what I鈥檝e read, there are also some issues about whether there鈥檚 a sufficient supply of the quality of聽leather used for major league balls. 聽
    • 3/4 so far today with a double and another stolen base.聽 Currently has a .333 average with a .993 OPS. Mayo, and perhaps Baumler to a lesser extent, were always going to be under the microscope with the underslot strategy but it's even more intense now with Kjerstad dealing with his illness. Couldn't ask for a better start so far for Mayo.聽
    • Cheap and stupid. I honestly never knew that and been watching baseball for 30+ years.聽
    • Glad to see this promotion. 聽 Hopefully he鈥檒l adjust quickly to that level. 聽
    • Saves about $100K per minor league team over the course of the season. MLB owners聽are聽incredibly cheap.
    • I鈥檝e never understood why they use a different ball from the big leagues? What鈥檚 the purpose?聽
