Jake Cronenworth: this year’s Yaz

Recommended Posts

So far, Jake Cronenworth is winning the 2020 Mike Yastrzemski award.    Drafted in the 7th round in 2015 by the Tampa Bay Rays, Cronenworth posted a mediocre MiL line of .283/.375/.394 as a minor leaguer.    Traded to the Padres as part of a multi-player swap this winter, Cronenworth debuted for the Padres this summer at the age of 26 years, 187 days.   All he’s done so far is post a line of .319/.378/.546, while mostly playing 2B, worth 1.7 rWAR so far.

Did Cronenworth's grandfather ever win a Triple Crown?  😉

I heard he changed his last name from Mantle.

Would be an offseason treat to longtime Fangraphs readers if Dave Cameron and Jeff Sullivan could get a pass to let us hear them banter on Padres and Rays type things, never mind if their two teams make October runs.
