Maybe another pitcher from Bowie tomorrow

In Roch's article today Hyde says there could be a pitcher from Bowie coming to start one of the double header games tomorrow.  Maybe has an opener or a more than that.  I am thinking one of the younger guys could get a look.

How does someone coming up now for the last 11 games or so affect their service time?

As I've said before it's really easy to manipulate pitcher service time.  As long as you aren't looking at a Sixto Sánchez level of performer no one will blink if a guy gets sent down because a fresh arm is needed.

Bruce Zimmerman for tomorrow's doubleheader?

No, nothing has been announced.   However, here is what Roch is saying:

Remember the O's can add a player for the doubleheader making the active roster 29 players.  Just for the day.

Gary Kendall on Zimmerman:

Really good feel to pitch.  He  commands the ball really well.  When I first saw him, I saw Flanagan pitch alot and I saw McGregor pitch a lot, he kind of reminds me a little of a blend of them both. Because he is a guy that can really pitch with his off speed pitches, but he has a good enough heater that when he needs to. He a guy that in the 5th and 6th innings last year in Norfolk, he had plenty in reserve.  He could reach back and show you 94 and 95 in the 5th.  He a good guy to be around.  You are going to get innings out of this guy. He can eat innings. He's a really good competitor.

They would be coming up for just one day as the 29th player allowed for a doubles.  Not for 11 days.

So I imagine it would be one day of service time.

True but I would not think that is even a concern here.

Next year it will be curious to see not only the Orioles but how the sport in general handles starting pitchers. Have to get thru 162. Nobody especially young arms built up innings this year.

Yes it will be interesting.  I suspect baseball may have some kind of expanded Fall league possibly in a bubble to get some of these guys 5 or so more starts or more innings.

It's too bad Baumann's sidelined.  He coulda been a fun third Billy Goat Gruff following Akin and Kremer.

We couldn't possible get Hall or Rodriguez here, could we?  I still have a light on for closing to within 3 of Toronto by next Friday night.

Brandon Hyde just confirmed the starter in game 2 will be from Bowie.  He said it will be announced tomorrow.  Bruce Zimmerman seems to make sense to me.  Hey a little more taste of the future.

Agree Zimmermann makes sense, given that Hyde said there was going to need to be a corresponding roster move.    So it’s not someone already on the 40-man roster.    It will be interesting to see who’s getting voted off the island, too.

The combo of Kremer and overnight hope that it could be someone even more interesting (is Smith in the mix here?) makes tomorrow's doubleheader almost threaten a need for a socially distanced watch meet up.

Re: Smith, Hays on his dugout postgame interview asked about Bowie did specifically cite a guy from A ball acquired at the trade deadline.  I could see Hays not knowing about Smith's AA cup of coffee.

If it is Zimmerman, and I’d love to see him, I’m going to be fried they didn’t bring him up three weeks ago.

If it’s not Zimmerman, I’m going to be fried about that, too.

That sounds finally like a promising return for Gausman.

    • As a kid of the 1970's, my hatred of the Yankees is well ingrained by now.  I happily vote WS where the Skanks lost pretty high.  Not higher than those our Orioles won, perhaps, but no Yankee win would occur before either of those two criteria are met.  And then there is every other team in the league to consider ahead of any NY win.  I don't think a Yankee win would even occur in my list... Sadly, it looks like Scott Van Pelt only had one measly vote.
    • It was 2nd division starter or utility guy, right? And with a 50 ceiling. That's a ML player who, best case, is a good starter on a good team or likely is still a guy with some value to a ML team. Especially if he can hold his own in the outfield. My take here is that: 1) Tony's understandably being conservative in general on this list because he hasn't seen a lot of these guys for a full year. 2) He's going by what he's heard. 3) There are guys lower on this list that are a bit farther away but who have higher potential. 4) Vavra, based on Tony and rankings from other sites with some credibility, has some potential to be a real contributor to the ML team within 2 years. I actually think Tony's grade is pretty accurate based on the feedback, but whether he should be ranked over Baumler, Mayo, Rom, Smith, Hall, Wells, Bradish, Stowers, Hernaiz, Haskin and others is up for debate and, ultimately, not really important. Heck, at least one site has him at 7. They must think he's decent. All those guys have risk and they all have had a big layoff from baseball, or at least from being seen. Vavra got put here because he's closer, he has produced on the field, and thus has somewhat lower risk, is my guess.
    • I think there’s very little journalism in sports, although there can be some very good sports writing. I think the very title indicates that this is just off-season fluff.
    • Yes, that place is good. But it used to be a barbecue place (maybe 20 or 25 years ago).   It was really good then.   I think it was called the Blind Pig. When I go to Tech for football games (about 6 weekends every fall since 1992, until this year), I cut across from 340 to 81 on Rt 7 and I stopped at the Blind Pig many a time, and got a pulled pork sandwich. Then The Blind Pig went out of business and was a tobacco store or something. Now it's tacos and I've stopped there once I think.
    • Don’t you remember, in 2012, Nate Mclouth hit a ball that grazed the foul pole for a Home run, but it was called foul. it would have changed the game, though it might not have changed the outcome.
