Maybe another pitcher from Bowie tomorrow

Recommended Posts

In Roch's article today Hyde says there could be a pitcher from Bowie coming to start one of the double header games tomorrow.  Maybe has an opener or a more than that.  I am thinking one of the younger guys could get a look.

How does someone coming up now for the last 11 games or so affect their service time?

As I've said before it's really easy to manipulate pitcher service time.  As long as you aren't looking at a Sixto Sánchez level of performer no one will blink if a guy gets sent down because a fresh arm is needed.

Bruce Zimmerman for tomorrow's doubleheader?

No, nothing has been announced.   However, here is what Roch is saying:

Remember the O's can add a player for the doubleheader making the active roster 29 players.  Just for the day.

Gary Kendall on Zimmerman:

Really good feel to pitch.  He  commands the ball really well.  When I first saw him, I saw Flanagan pitch alot and I saw McGregor pitch a lot, he kind of reminds me a little of a blend of them both. Because he is a guy that can really pitch with his off speed pitches, but he has a good enough heater that when he needs to. He a guy that in the 5th and 6th innings last year in Norfolk, he had plenty in reserve.  He could reach back and show you 94 and 95 in the 5th.  He a good guy to be around.  You are going to get innings out of this guy. He can eat innings. He's a really good competitor.

They would be coming up for just one day as the 29th player allowed for a doubles.  Not for 11 days.

So I imagine it would be one day of service time.

True but I would not think that is even a concern here.

Next year it will be curious to see not only the Orioles but how the sport in general handles starting pitchers. Have to get thru 162. Nobody especially young arms built up innings this year.

Yes it will be interesting.  I suspect baseball may have some kind of expanded Fall league possibly in a bubble to get some of these guys 5 or so more starts or more innings.

It's too bad Baumann's sidelined.  He coulda been a fun third Billy Goat Gruff following Akin and Kremer.

We couldn't possible get Hall or Rodriguez here, could we?  I still have a light on for closing to within 3 of Toronto by next Friday night.

Brandon Hyde just confirmed the starter in game 2 will be from Bowie.  He said it will be announced tomorrow.  Bruce Zimmerman seems to make sense to me.  Hey a little more taste of the future.

Agree Zimmermann makes sense, given that Hyde said there was going to need to be a corresponding roster move.    So it’s not someone already on the 40-man roster.    It will be interesting to see who’s getting voted off the island, too.

The combo of Kremer and overnight hope that it could be someone even more interesting (is Smith in the mix here?) makes tomorrow's doubleheader almost threaten a need for a socially distanced watch meet up.

Re: Smith, Hays on his dugout postgame interview asked about Bowie did specifically cite a guy from A ball acquired at the trade deadline.  I could see Hays not knowing about Smith's AA cup of coffee.

If it is Zimmerman, and I’d love to see him, I’m going to be fried they didn’t bring him up three weeks ago.

If it’s not Zimmerman, I’m going to be fried about that, too.

That sounds finally like a promising return for Gausman.

    • Nevin is a prospect at 23 years old.  1B is his best position.  He will probably stays on the 40 man roster all year. Shaw is an organizational player at 27.  His best position is Bat thus DH.  He is likely to be DFA'd to get him off the 49 man  roster.
    • Barry Bonds did ok...
    • If Ayala can improve his shooting that would be awesome.  Today was a good start.  I think Wiggins needs to improve his handles and slashing game to be the scorer that would need.  His catch and shoot game is pure.   Gonna need Marial to improve his offensive game as well.  We already know he will defend the rim (theoretically).  Needs to work on his conditioning.  Ultimately I think our lack of interior presence will be our demise, unless Smith and Scott really ball their face off. We have that Swiss guy Revas as well, I'm not expecting much from him though.  The lack of backcourt depth also might hurt unless Dockery and Smart grow quickly.  Can Ayala be the primary ball handler and distributor?  Maybe. I don't think this team will fall off as badly as most think.  Like you said, Morsell/Ayala/Wiggins will keep us in most games.  If Scott and Hamilton (who was a top 100 recruit going into BC) can step up then I think we could surprise some people.  I see us sneaking into the tournament as a 7-10 seed.
    • It’s a supply and demand thing.  Whether someone offers X amount of dollars is irrelevant.  The Os And their structure, could use his bat and his production.   Most teams don’t have that combo of at bats and money they can spend on a player with his skill set.     The Os do...and the idea that other teams chose not to do it is irrelevant to his value to this organization.  The idea that they may be looking into Puig (conjecture) and brought on a LH DH type at REINFORCES the idea that this is salary driven, not producing driven imo.     My only argument with this decision is that this isn’t solely or even largely driven by roster management despite what Elias says.  He is lying for management.
    • Your tone of authority when you are clearly in a fog is admirable.  Anyone who thought his arbitration number was a bargain, as you suggest, could have offered a warm body to secure his services before he hit the open market.  What won't make sense is if any team offers him 2M or more now that he's available to any team that wants him.
    • There are three vaccines, possibly four or five, if you trust the Chinese and Russians. Every factory on the world is going to be producing them. We may delay the start of spring training(only three months away) but I don’t think the season will start late. We may have distanced crowds, though.
    • No, it absolutely is the formula and what’s he’s worth.  That’s a fact. However, there are only a few teams that need a DH, so it’s not surprising that the market isn’t there..plus, you have announced that you are cutting him, so why trade for him with so little completion?
